What, no Leonid thread?

So has anyone seen them? Anyone plan on seeing them? I looked for them around 11pm (EST) but to no avail. I think the moon was too bright. There’s supposed to be a second round of them coming at around 5:20am and I think I’ll be able to see them a little better. Post your reviews here if you get a chance to see them.

I saw some around midnight, then I took a nap. Right now is supposed to be peak, but the clouds are here.

I dragged myself out of bed at 5 to see if I could see them. What’s it doing outside? Raining.
Bah. Instead, I’ll just drink lots of coffee, then go down to campus early.

I went outside 20 minutes ago; between the streetlights and the trees, I didn’t see a damn thing. In future, I won’t even bother.

I just came inside to warm up.
I’m seeing about a rate of ~4-500/hr. Some spectacular fireballs. Very cool.

And yet again, New Zealand scores a virtual “no hope in heck”, unless we’re keen to get up at th’ crack of birdsquawk to see a few dwindling flares.

T’is a conspiracy, I tells ya!

Eh. Some day, some day …

North of Boston, I’d guess I was seeing 100-200/hour before it got too light to see. Fairly disappointing after last year’s show, but between the setting moon and the rising sun, there really was too much light for good observing.

Didn’t see much activity from the 11:00 “storm” either, but what I did see was pretty spectacular – lots of earth grazers.

I saw one this morning when I let the dog out and I was amazed to have seen that. What with the full moon and all the street lights around here, I could barely see stars. Venus was pretty impressive, tho.

Just came in. I was out for about 45 mins (from about 5:05-5:50am US EST.) Saw easily 150-200 meteors, with maybe 5-10% of them in the “spectacular” category. They were absolutely beautiful. Some nice colors and just an overall visually pleasing experience. Definately well worth laying out in the cold for.

I was told that the best time for watching around here was 2:30 in the morning… But with the moon and any streetlights bouncing around in a low-level haze around the horizon, I only saw a couple.

Generally 1 to 3 per minute here in central North Carolina from 5:30 to 6:00 AM – this from a fairly poor spot where I could only see the eastern half of the sky. Also saw three satellites. The moon didn’t seem to cause too much of a problem, and it lighted up the trails of the brighter meteors.

I walked outside and saw a handful … just enough to justify being out in the cold.

I envy you bastards. I went out and didn’t see a thing. Though I did see a nice ring around the moon. I went out to see it around 11 last night, but went in because it got too cold.

Dammit! I’m stuck in Seoul!

No Leonids for me…

Pepper Mill went out last night and saw one, then came it because it was getting “Cold and Spooky”. At her request, I got her up at 4:45 this morninf (when I get up to go to work) and she didn’t see any. I saw about 4-5 while scraping the car.

On the whole, I was disappointed. I saw more when I watched the Perseids. The Perseids have a better rep than the Leonids, in any case.

We went out at 11:30 to see them.
There were clouds, but breaks in them.
The weird thing is, they were slow.
They moved as slow as an airplane would’ve!
No, they weren’t planes, it was the leonids!
But they moved really slow!
How?

We were clouded in all night, so I didn’t see anything. For those of you who missed the meteor shower, as a consolation you may get to see a lunar eclipse tonight.

I saw the great show last year, and planned to get a repeat and even broadcasted it to everyone I knew as a second chance if they missed it last year. But alas, there was a thick cloud cover that you could barely see the moon through, and it lasted all night. Now I’m glad I got to see it last year, since it’ll never be this good again in my lifetime.

Suburban OKC. 3:30 a.m to 5:30 a.m. Completely clear and still sky! Yummy…

Saw one every two minutes. Sometimes four at a time. One 10 minute stretch with none, then several close groupings. Very nice. I wonder how many I could’ve seen with a dark sky site. Considering the moon was very bright, that’s quite a showing!

I prefer the winter for sky gazing. Still, clear skies. Plus the cold keps me alert. I’m a winter lover anyways. Can’t wait to go skiing.

To answer your thread title, Cisco: Yes, there’s already been an existing Leonids thread for a few days now. But it’s been in Cafe Society, for some inexplicable reason.
