Golf doesn’t get enough love on this MB, but we may be seeing history. Gotta love this “kid”!
Nothing against Bubba, but Spieth is just amazing to watch. Nice to see Freddy up there, too.

Birdie-Birdie on the 6th. This is going to be good!
Wow. Now Bubba’s back in the lead! Hang in there, Jordan.
I hope the back 9 is this good!
Edit: Freddy hit a rough stretch. Putting it in the water on 11 really hurt.
He’s amazingly composed for a 20-year-old. And at his first Masters. Most guys his age would be shitting bricks about now.
Absolutely. It looked like nerves got to him for a bit there, but he’s back under control.
Oops, maybe I spoke too soon. A birdie there would have been nice.
In the water!!
Freddy got lucky the other day when his stayed up.
Come on Jordan, don’t get flustered.
I’d like to see Kuchar get a couple of birdies and get back in it, too.
Nice putt by Spieth.
Wow, what a put.
I’m a few minutes lagging. Had to pause for a phone call.
I think he is shitting bricks a bit, but bloody hell he’s got ability. This is a great watch.
That was a helluva drive by Bubba.
Bubba for the win!
Congrats to Bubba. I wanted Jordan to win, but I’m happy he’s got a 2nd Green Jacket. Plenty of time for Jordan to get his.
Yeah, good for Bubba. That’s two Masters wins in the last three years. Still an impressive performance by Spieth.
Indeed.
Let’s hope we don’t hear about “The Lord” from Bubba. I hate it when golfers get all religiousy at the champions interview.
I was going to start a thread but saw this one.
My thread was going to be something like…
**“The Masters was this weekend, and I completely forgot about it.
Anyone else forget about this tournament?”
**
I am not a big Tiger Woods fan. However, I came to realize today that I follow golf primarily because of Tiger Woods. So, even though I don’t root for or against him, I want him in the tournament. I wonder why that is?
I really don’t care if he wins or loses. However, I need him in the tournament for me to watch it. I can’t figure that part out, because I have no conscious passion for him one way or the other. I just think he makes the tournament more exciting, especially when he is in contention on the weekend. When he’s behind, I find myself rooting for him to pull himself up with the leaders, and when he is up, I find myself rooting for him to come back to the pack. It just seems to be better drama, I guess.
As for other golfers. i can’t think of any that I want to win.
The only two guys that actually give me any sort of emotional reaction are Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh, both of who I can’t stand and hope they don’t win. I also dislike Sergio Garcia, but i know he will choke before victory is an issue, so I never worry about him. (Come to think of it, I have no idea if Phil or Vijay played the Masters this year, and i have no idea how old either one of them are… Maybe they are in the twilight of their careers.
I still enjoy playing golf, but I didn’t watch 5 minutes of the Masters this year, which even last year was unthinkable. It is my kick-off to spring.
Anyone else feel this way, or at least feel like I do from an interest POV?
Ultra sweet with Bubba and his wee kid. gulp
“Go Spieth!” sounds like a command addressed to a medieval intelligence agent…
SFP: I’m the opposite. I’m glad Tiger wasn’t playing. The press will make it all about him, whether he’s winning or not. I don’t dislike Tiger, but I don’t like the way he’s fawned over. I like to see The Masters, not Tiger playing the Masters and oh yeah, there are a few others playing, too.
But most people feel like you, and that’s why the press does what they do-- there aren’t enough hard core fans like me. Most people watch to see what Tiger is doing.
Too bad Spieth wasn’t paired with Olazabal.
I agree with you about the media fawning. One of the things that does irritate me is the flashing of where Woods is, even if he is 20 shots off the lead. They have made golf a sport that involves one guy (Tiger) and the rest of the planet. That is unfortunate.
But I may be a product of that fawning. Because in my mind, if Tiger isn’t playing, it isn’t worth paying attention to. That really shouldn’t be the case, because I am not some die-hard Tiger fan. I appreciate his talent, but I don’t root for him. He has just become my tie into the sport.
I really haven’t thought about this until today, but watching golf without someone to pull for doesn’t work for me. And like I mentioned, i can pull for Tiger when he is behind, and I can root against him when he is winning. But it shouldn’t be that way. I should be able to enjoy the Masters regardless of who is winning, as long as the golf is good and there is an interesting tournament.
I went from the Jack Niclklaus generation to Tiger, and I have no one to go to now. I don’t think I can name 5 golfers under 30. That is my fault, because I haven’t followed the sport close enough to do so. But it is also the fault of ESPN and other golf outlets, who have thrown so much of their coverage at Woods that they have little time for anyone else.
I guess my passion for the sport is really the problem here, because if I was truly interested, I would do the homework necessary. I have heard of Bubba Watson, but I think that is due to the fact that he is a very good golfer who had already won a Masters. I never heard of Spieth, although I suspect many don’t recognize his name if he is only 20.
