Ok, so you have a thread about bad cover songs, I’m sorry, but this deserves, nay commands a thread of it’s own.
I’m not necessarily a fan of c/w, but am also not a Dolly-hater ya know? As I’m driving to work this am, listening to the ‘oldies’ station, I hear the morning guy going on and on about something. Well, he often seems to have a burr up his butt, so this doesn’t really alarm me, yet.
and then he mentions Dolly Parton singing Zepplin’s Stairway to Heaven.
no, really.
but this station does a lot of ‘joke’ songs and stuff, so although I nearly drive off the side of the road, I comfort myself with the idea that ‘they’re just joking’ - and Snookie and I have played this game (what song/singer combination makes your virtual ears hurt? - like the real recording of Mae West ‘singing’ Twist & Shout or Leonard Nimoy doing * Proud Mary* - ‘Big wheel keeps on turning’, only making them up, like Sinatra doing Who let the dogs out for example)
But I digress.
For the truth, the truth my friends was far more horrifying.
For the truth is, Ms. Parton did indeed record for resale and play on the airwaves, her version of Stairway to Heaven.
I hear the ice cubes clinking somewhere.
