What non-policy issues would you like Kamala Harris to work on?

So, as a guy with a soft voice, I understand the struggles of being interrupted, talked-over, and having difficulty being loud and heard by everyone you’re addressing. It’s poopy. So, as a result of this, I (try to) say as much as I can with the little time I have to get a word in. I’m not great at it, because I honestly lack wit. I’m witless. I do the best I can, though.

My concern is that Kamala might have the same problem. I don’t believe she’s quick on her feet or snappy with a retort, so… if it’s at all possible to remedy that at any capacity, that’d be cool, imho.

I recall a great and even intimidating “… I’m speaking…” she used during a debate a few years ago when someone interrupted her. I think she’ll be fine in that aspect.

I live in the Bay Area, and have watched Kamala Harris through her whole career. She does not let people talk over her, buffalo her, or intimidate her. I wouldn’t worry about that at all.

But that border interrogation on 60 minutes was awful. I’ve seen her unable to ‘spin’ things before. Maybe it’s me.

(I think it was 60 mins, EDIT Nope, NBC News)

TBH I’m not worried about that at all. Of course she’s not going to win a debate with Trump. Trump doesn’t debate, he rants you can’t win a debate with him. She just needs to appear as a stark contrast to this blathering hateful incoherent old man. And she can absolutely do that, she’ll look young, charismatic and uplifting. It’s a win for her whatever he does. If she gets a couple of zingers in all the better, but she really just needs to turn up

I think Trump will debate. IMO he didn’t choose to debate Biden as he had some insight into Bidens ailing condition, he did so as in his mind he is this charismatic great orator. He’s not, he did a terrible job at the Biden debate it’s just that Biden did an even worse one. Harris will not, even on a bad day she will seem like a breath of fresh air next to Trump

I’m not just talking about Trump.

For anyone interested.

She’s NOT as quick as Buttigieg, (who is), but I think she could work on it, as I believe I’ve seen her “fumble” before.

So what would you have her do differently? That seems like a pretty decent job of a politician dealing with a “gotcha” question? At the end of the day there wasn’t any right answer to that question, as she had not in fact gone to the border (possibly a mistake but hell she’s going to make mistakes if that’s the worst of them she’s doing great), so she had to give an arm wavey politician’s response and she did that.

I do think Kamala Harris has weaknesses. She has a tendency to act offended when she doesn’t like a question. That won’t help her with undecided voters.

I’m not a politician, but that looked bad to me. Why did she keep phrasing it in a way that made it seem like she’s been to the border by saying “we”? Sure, some could take that as a collective effort by Dems in general and that she personally didn’t go… but that’s still a bit of a stretch, to me. Also, is it a gotcha? I mean, it’s a relevant question, right? And the Europe stuff? It’s not my favorite, sorry.

I mean it’s not going to appear in her election ads but that seems as good an answer as any. It was totally a gotcha she hadn’t gone to the border and “people are saying” she should have gone to the border. Nothing she said could have let her gone back in time and actually visited the border, so she’s gonna be on the back foot. If say she did a decent enough job handling it, its not obvious what Mayor Pete or anyone else could have said that would have gone over better. I guess she could have gone the mea culpa route and apologized saying would visit the border post haste, but that would have made her look weak over something very minor. I mean seriously when was the last time anyone gave a shit about where a VP did or did not go ? (it’s not like she’s denying having sex with a couch or anything  )

An iron-fist attitude. “It doesn’t matter if I’m right or wrong. Power grows out of the barrel of a gun.”

If it bother voters when she does it, but doesn’t when Trump does much more often, then those voters are not acting in good faith and are in fact not “undecided”-they are liars.

Yeah it may have escaped some folks notice but people are mad. The events of the last couple of years with SCOTUS and J6, etc. have been absolutely maddening, not just to the terminally online nerds like myself. A lot of us are pissed off beyond belief at what is happening to our country. If Harris wants to channel that rage on occasion I am quite alright with that.

Good point. There’s hardly a character flaw that Trump doesn’t have. It’s a puzzle to me why his supporters tolerate, accept, or even adore his BS.

People are inconsistent in their judgments. But I do think it would help Harris not to take things personally sometimes.

I don’t think she’s got a soft voice. At least, not when she’s making a speech, or otherwise needing to be heard in a group of people (or, famously, laughing); I’m sure she can talk softly when that’s what’s called for.

– I don’t see what’s wrong in the immigration clip, either. She lets the interviewer – who is supposed to be in charge in that situation – interrupt her and allows him to go on for a bit, yes. She then firmly takes charge of the conversation and points out what’s wrong with his line of conversation.

Are you sure you’re not hearing her voice as “soft” because it’s a woman’s voice?

If it drives away voters that were originally for her, then maybe.
If it involves supposed fence sitters that have a habit of pissing off of just one side of the fence most of the time, then absolutely not.

Going to the border wasn’t even her job, as I understand it. It would be a photo op, nothing more.

No. I’m not. I think Hillary had a more “booming”/“cutt through air” voice, I could be mistaken. I don’t understand how to put it, because of my knowledge of sound, but I personally have a similar sort of issue, (if I’m not going nuts, which could certainty be the case). I don’t know, I have a nasale voice, as, it would seem to me, she does. Perhaps I’m projecting my own (perceived) issues onto her, but it’s not a voice that I think lends me any favors while competing for conversational supremacy…

I suppose I’m off on everything. I was going to try and find another example I had in mind. I believe it was something she had said in the debates that she kind of tried to backpedal (awkwardly?) from? Maybe I’m misremember. And then (or along with??) something with Tulsi Gabbard, of all people?

I’ll look it up later. I don’t believe my memory (or even my perception) any more. :open_mouth:

I’ll reevaluate later, I guess, But not ruling you peeps out. Just try not to gasslight me/(or yourself). And I’ll do the same.

To Clarify, “My lack of knowledge” is what I meant.

…and (too me) I feel I can’t get my voice up to eleven.

Yes, I’m a guy. My voice being that way (to me) seems “weirder” on my end, than it could be on hers, imho,
