What odd things do you enjoy smelling or tasting or doing?

New shoes.

I love the way cold coins feel in my hand. And the way cold jewelry feels when it goes on my fingers/wrists/neck. I’ve been known to take my rings off just to enjoy the cold sensation of putting them back on a couple of minutes later.

The inside of dogs ears. it has a cheesy, funky smell that is just unique. Puppy fur.

I like to eat the one or two micro-shrimp in the top of the Cup O’ Noodles before I add any water.

The smell of a residential garage. Childhood memories, that one.

Like others, the smell of cut grass and gasoline, especially on hot, hot summer days.

The breakfast cereal-like smell of my grandmother’s kitchen.

The lingering odor of Irish Spring in her bathroom.

The smell of my husband’s head–smells just like fresh pencil shavings, sort of a bitter smell, but good.

On the opposite end of smells… a lot of beds where men sleep end up with a very acrid odor. I call it “testosterone stink”. Thankfully, my husband doesn’t produce this smell.

ETA… oh, and I love love love antacids. Any flavor, any brand, chalky or chewy. They’re as good as any fruity candy.

The smell of gun powder after firing off a round.

As an ex-smoker, this is one I love too.

I loved the smell of my dog’s feet. They smelled vaguely like corn chips.

As a current smoker, I’d like to point out that between the fact that I like that smell and that I smoke does not mean that I like the smell of smoke in general. Whenever I tell people that I like that first whiff of a cigarette they start going on and on about clothes smelling like smoke and crowded bars etc etc etc. They don’t get it. It’s just that first whiff as it drifts into the room. Beyond that I’d rather not be smelling it.

I suspect I’d like the smell even if I was a non-smoker.

Smells like victory!

Myself- I like the antiseptic smell of doctors’ offices or dentists’ waiting rooms. And how is this for odd associations?- Because those places often have the children’s Bible Story books or Uncle Arthur’s (S. Maxwell) story books which are put out by the Seventh-Day Adventists, I associate that smell with Adventism. If I ever enter a SDA Church & it doesn’t smell like that (which I’m sure it won’t), I’ll feel a bit disappointed.

I’m another one that likes the smell of skunk. I also like that…cattle smell. Anyone that has taken I5 from LA to SF and passed by Harris ranch knows the smell. I don’t know why, but I just like it. I also like the smell of a nail salon.

I love the smell of glossy paper, like magazines or (especially) baseball cards.

Frito feet! Love 'em!

Me too! but only in small amounts. Such as driving down a road and being able to tell that one just sprayed off in the distance. I’d prefer not to have one spray into my house (again). And with the skunk smell is the smell of really good pot being smoked…though I suspect I’m not alone in that one.

I love the smell of exhaust at the airport - it reminds me of going on vacation when I was a child.

Whenever I open a new pack of post-its I fan the paper and take a deep whiff. I love it! It reminds me of playing old Sierra games when I was young and breathing in the printer paper smell.

I’m glad I’m not the only person who thinks that. Not about yours, of course - just mine.

That’s a good word for it. I only like my husband’s testosterone stink, but not anyone else’s.

I thought of one even more disgusting. When my daughter was exclusively breastfed - no solids - I didn’t mind the smell of her poop. I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way to smell it, but it really wasn’t particularly unpleasant.

The library and to a lesser extent, book stores. I don’t know if it’s the paper, the ink or the combination thereof but it’s such a distinct, serene smell.

I also used to love the smell of those plastic, zippable pencil holders that you would put in your three ring binder. I bet some of our younger dopers don’t have a clue what I’m talking about.

It’s not gross, but maybe unusual- I love the smell of Pine-Sol. I especially loved it during pregnancies, probably because that smell signifies clean to me, and I would find something to mop or clean it with every day while nesting. I’d even crave the smell, often going to my kitchen cabinet just to get it out and smell it. I still love the smell but I’m not as much of a fanatic about it as I was while pregnant.

Also, the creosote smell here in the desert when it rains… aaaaah.

Gasoline smell is nice, but combined with seawater smell, it’s heavenly. Somehow I got that from my childhood, which is weird, because I grew up in Iowa. Not many oceans there.

New electronics.

New car, of course.

As for taste, I love cough medicine. Once every four hours my ass.

I like the smell of WD40
