What Old Horror Movie Is This?

I’d like to know the name of an old (1950’s or earlier I think) black-and-white horror film that I saw several times as a kid in the 1970’s. There are blob-type monsters about the size of a bean-bag chair that split in half and divide, all gooey. They are dormant during this process and the terrified humans can step around them at these times.

I remember one scene where one of these things landed on the back window of a car, terrifying a woman inside. The car was very old (1930’s maybe) and the windows had rounded corners. I think the monsters might have been dropping out of trees, too.

That’s about all I remember. Thanks in advance in the unlikely event that someone finds this to be enough information to identify the film!

Island of Terror

Your descriptions sounds a whole lot like Island of Terror, which has blobby monsters that split in two. There are scenes in which the blobs drop from trees, and at least one scene in which they land on a car. But this movie is in color. Could you have seen it on a B&W television?

I think Island of Terror is it! I didn’t remember the tentacles or the bumps on the monsters (or that it was in color) but this seems too close to not be it.

I’ve been wanting to see this again for years, I haven’t seen it since I was a kid in the 70’s and would watch the 3pm movie after school.

That movie put me off chicken noodle soup for years!
