What order do you visit the forums in?

When you go on the SDMB, however often that is, what order do you visit the forums in?

What is the first one you visit to ‘Start the day’?

For me:

1 IMHO
2 ATMB, to see if anything interesting is posted (unless it is grey)
3 MPSIMS
4 GQ
5 The Pit

I visit the others quite rarely, but visit GD more than the Comments ones.

Heh, I have been thinking of starting a thread like this.

I go from the bottom up, but stop at GQ. I like it because they seem to go roughly in order of increasing civility. (Maybe GD is an exception. Tempers rise quite high there, but there is a factual expectation not matched anywhere but GQ.)

First I search on my name as a keyword to see if anyone has said anything to or about me. [Judy Tenuta voice] it could happen. [/Judy Tenuta voice]

Then I search on my name as a user to see what’s going on in any threads I’ve posted to.

Then I peruse MPSIMS and IMHO, in either order.

Then, if I have time, I go to GQ, just in case I have an answer to something. (Once in a long while.)

Then I look at GD, in case I have something cogent to contribute there. (Hasn’t happened yet, but I keep hoping.)

I tend to avoid the others, not out of design, really, just most of the interesting stuff goes on in the five I mentioned. I have been getting more into the IMHO/MPSIMS side of things, but that’s just because no good debates are going on and too much of the stuff in ATMB ends up in the Pit anyway.

I usually visit these six forums daily (in this order):

  1. GQ (I usually visit at least twice daily)
  2. ATMB
  3. CoCC
  4. CoSR (doesn’t have the same cachet as the old “CoMA”)
  5. IMHO
  6. MPSIMS

Lastly and much more rarely (once or twice a week), GD and the Pit

I think I remember seeing this before, but oh well. For me, it’s IMHO and then MPSIMS. I don’t feel smart enough to contribute in GD or GQ, and the Pit scares me.

I usually start with MPSIMS nowadays, but it varies from day to day. Just depends on what mood I’m in. If I feel like arguing, I’ll go to GD first; if I feel silly, I’ll probably go to MPSIMS or IMHO. The only forums I hardly ever visit are the “Comments on…” forums, although sometimes I search for threads with Cecil’s actual comments in them.

Mostly I lurk a lot and post a little. Sometimes I get involved in a heated religious debate (remember ARG220?) and get carried away, posting a lot. But that happens only once every season, if that often.
