I’m a little shocked people in NJ did not respond with good pizza but the living near the beach is far a better answer than country music, salvation or yoga. If I lived in Hawaii I would have gone with living in Hawaii.
Cool map! The “rain” states made me laugh, then get concerned. And I’m no Christian, but can you really be thankful for salvation if, y’know, you haven’t been saved yet?
I guess people in Illinois really like their mother-in-laws. Or there’s a high percentage of smartalecks there.
And yoga? Seriously, Oregon?
Netflix in NH? If I lived there I’d be thankful for all the mountains and lakes nearby.
It looks like New York State is being driven by NYC, with the concern about apartments – a good one is definitely something to be thankful for in the city, but I can’t image that is at all representative of the rest of the state. (I live in NYC and am from Buffalo, so I’m pretty familiar with the range.)
(Deleted double post)
The answer in Buffalo these days must be they’re grateful for the existence of summer! Those pics were  and it isn’t even officially winter yet.
New York City is representative of the entire state, since the city itself, even before counting in all the suburbs and exurbs, is nearly half of the state’s entire population.
I was there last week, and we had two 60 degree days and SO much of that snow is just … gone. Melted, and now in the form of water, most of which seems to be in my family room. It was really crazy, even by Buffalo standards.
If I had to guess, I would say the majority of gratitude these days in Buffalo (and western NY) is for the Pegulas. (The family that owns the hockey team and recently purchased the football team.)
We’re actually grateful for our new marijuana laws, which will start bringing in some revenue in July, replacing the funds lost from federal timber payments. Maybe we can have some law enforcement again!
Oh. And yoga.
Keep in mind surveys like this are reporting the most disproportionate responses not the most popular responses. So the most popular responses in every state would be things like “my family” and “good health”. But if rainbows was the 50th most popular choice in Hawaii while it was the 100th choice in every other state, it makes this survey.
I really do enjoy having electricity, the only time it gets appreciated is after an outage of course. I haven’t suffered any power outages in years, but plenty of others nearby have so maybe that’s why Michiganders are so thankful?
<off topic hijack> I love that you have to do away with a major source of law enforcement work in order to get law enforcement money. <o.t.h>
Who’s up for seeing “Oh. And yoga.” turning into the new " … and shit." around here?
Yeppers. Especially those of us in rural areas with lots of trees. I swear our part of the grid hasn’t been updated since Edison.
Our power was out yesterday for half an hour. That’s the first outage since Sandy when half the town here had none for over a week.
YouTube. YouTube is great and all but guess we don’t have any big problems here!
I’m curious about the Kentuckians’ appreciation for “work family”.
That’s the family they don’t have sex with. Much less pressure.
I’m thankful that 95% of the Democrats in Illinois live in the Chicagoland area and not in the rural areas of the State. Makes the air smell better out in the country.
I live in a similar climate, and believe me, you never, *ever *complain about the rain. Rain is always good.
My parents live Up North, a mile down a wooded dirt road, and 4-5 day outages in the winter are normal and expected.
