The only time I’ve used it is when I’m repeating something else, like when I was telling my colleagues at work about a case I had where a black kid was charged with disorderly conduct for calling a white cop “Nigga.”
Nope, never to my recollection. And I’ve lived both in Chicago and in the South.
None.
None that I can recall, and FWIW I live in a part of the country where I see Confederate battle flag bumper stickers, etc., on a fairly regular basis.
I don’t think I even know any black women who use this word casually; one friend of mine in college wouldn’t even say it when quoting other people, she would say “N”.
Hey, I’m a Brit and I did Huckleberry Finn at school! We may be English-English lit centric, but we’re not THAT bad.
To the OP, I never hear the word nigger, from white women or men, in my circles in the UK, which are admittedly pretty polite and middle class, but I also don’t think it has ever been a word used regularly here, apart from maybe black kids trying to be urban cool.
And voguevixen, I agree with you that in a polite, moderated adult forum such as the Dope, I don’t see the need to disguise the word in text. It’s one of the reasons I like The Guardian newspaper, a paper that treats it’s readership as grown-ups and prints swear words in full if they are relevant.
The only time I can recall a white woman use the word to my face was from a waitress in Las Vegas who dropped it so casually into conversation, myself and my companions were stunned to silence.
