How easy is it to get banned. For instance i don’t always write correctly and don’t always use capitol letter. Which i know piss a lot of people off. But is that a reason to get banned? I want to join but not if i’m going to get banned. I’m not rude or hateful to anyone so i know there’s no problem there. Can someone let me know?
#1 Rule: Don’t be a jerk.
Kind of like the Pirate’s Code.
Read the forum descriptions and the stickies in each one. You really do have to be exceptionally bad to get kicked out. Jokes, misspellings, and passions won’t do it, unless one does those things simply to be a troll. But, veery few rules here are concrete. The SDMB is alive and reacts as a real human often would.
First off, calm down, willya?
You’re okay so far.
Read over the registration agreement; that should tell you a lot of what you need to know.

Look over the various forums and figure out what you have to say and where you’d fit in. Lurk for a little while and see what other people do, and when you feel ready, jump in.
It takes a lot to get banned right out of the box. Spamming the board will get you that faster than anything else I know. We don’t throw you out for grammer or spelling, though the better you are at THAT, the better we like it.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask any of us on staff; we’re happy to help you.

Thank you. The only question i have is what is spamming? Sorry i should probably know this but i don’t.
I am SO not saying it.
Love ya, TubaDiva.
Okay, did you just get a computer this week?
Or are you playing with us?
In case it’s the first, from Wikipedia:
Wikipedia – Spamming
>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spamming
“Spamming is the use of any electronic communications medium to send unsolicited messages in bulk. In the popular eye, the most common form of spam is that delivered in e-mail as a form of commercial advertising. However, over the short history of electronic media, people have done things comparable to spamming for many purposes other than the commercial, and in many media other than e-mail. In this article and those related, the term spamming is used broadly to refer to all of these behaviors, regardless of medium and commercial intent.”
Here, spamming is a very bad thing to attempt, and that will get you banned.

Paging Gaudere…
daydreamer, I think it should be stressed that if you mess up - say, get in a heated argument and insult another Doper in Great Debates - you’ll typically get at least one warning before getting booted (not for spamming, though). Especially if you apologize.
Don’t stress over it, and welcome.
If you really don’t know what spamming is, you’re not a spammer.
