I’m amazed you guys can get to so many concerts. I’m just looking forward to Springsteen in September (ok, not actually a summer concert). We get to about one show a year.
Al Green in June and I’m doing the Pitchfork Music Festival in July.
I’ve got only two on my list but both pretty significant travel…
**Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers’ Circus Mexicus XXI @ Rocky Point, Sonora, Mexico **in June
Dave Matthews Band @ Gorge Ampitheater WA in late Aug/ early Sept.
Just saw the Rev. Al Green earlier this month at Jazzfest in New Orleans; He still sounds great and his backing band is top notch…
I’ve been dying to catch a show at Red Rocks for years and years. But whenever I’ve been in the Denver area there was nothing to see. I pretty much got off the bus in '95, so flying out just for a concert isn’t really in the cards. The friends I had that lived there have moved away, so there just hasn’t been a reason to head back to Denver.
(But … but String Cheese Incident!)
Bethel Woods is pretty great the first time you’re there (it’s the site of the original Woodstock), and it’s a divine amphitheatre, but I’ve never seen anything that approaches Red Rocks.
Recently caught Los Lobos, X, and Mariachi El Bronx (highly recommend them) on a golf course (!) here in Central Calif.
This very weekend we’ll see Taj Mahal, Tower of Power, and Doobie Bros (might hit the snooae button for the headliner)
Highlight of my summer will be Diego’s Umbrella in SLO town, June.
Otherwise, not much besides the free shows in the park down the street Sundays in the summer.
*snooze
I can because like you said, priorities. I don’t drink, shop sales, have no children, a husband that loves going to shows as well, live in Denver and know every trick in the book for getting +1s and discounted tickets, and lastly I’m a concert photographer. Doesn’t pay, but I don’t pay either. Trust me, it hurt bad buying 30 (60!! Both of us ack!)Phish tickets at once, that was planned a year in advance.
Red rocks is the best as long as you are row 50 and below, the sound can get swept away on really windy nights. The Gorge is awesome, but once it’s dark it is any stage in the middle of nowhere. Hollywood Bowl is my favorite venue for sound and the fact that they have sushi. Have not been to Bethel, it’s on the list!
At the moment, only Radiohead in Toronto on June 16. I would like to add the My Morning Jacket show, Japandroids the weekend before Radiohead and a few bands playing NXNE, but we’ll see if that happens.
If I see nothing else but Radiohead, it will still be an amazing summer.
Ten minutes later…
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP…
Yeah, expect I’ll like the two opening acts, just less than thrilled with the prospect of enduring a Doobie Bros. show. Not sure How I’m going to cope. Don’t want to embalm myself with overly expensive alcohol…
any advice?
My problem is that I can’t think of anything but Raj saying “which Doobie do yoube?”
No, wait. Maybe you could imagine a Doobie in your funk? (see Connection, Mothership. Clinton, G., Collins, B., Worrell, B. 1975. See also Thumpasorus Peoples, Night of.)
Hahaha, I can only hope the Doobies come within a whiff of that level of funkitude.
We go to Summerfest every year. This year I’m looking forward to going to Sound Town to see Weezer!! Hooray!! (Oh, and Jane’s Addiction and many others…it’s a 3 day event) ![]()
Already saw Springsteen and The Old 97s.
Coming up, we are going to Floydfest , hopefully all 4 days, for sure the last three.
Also have tickets to see Roger Waters The Wall, and tickets to MusicMidtown, which features Pearl Jam on the final night.
Once upon a time I used to go to concerts regularly. Not anymore. With a two-year-old I never have any free time.
Totally understand. As mentioned upthread, the Dudeling is only 2.5. On the plus side, we’re taking him to his first concert shortly and in a few more months when he turns 3 we figure he’ll be old enough to stay on his own for a few hours. As long as there isn’t an extended encore things should go well (if there is we may have a bit of extra clean-up at home, but then it would have been worth it).
Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers at Red Rocks (Colorado) in July.
Crosby Stills and Nash at Red Rocks in August.
Too busy for much else. I really wish I had time to go to State Bridge again this year. It’s a small outdoor music festival, about 60 miles from me. Last summer a friend of mine and I went and lodged in a yurt.
We’re seeing Jonathan Coulton in a few weeks, then Wil Wheaton Vs Paul and Storm, an abbreviated W00tstock, in August. I’m very much looking forward to both!
There are also a lot of smaller local shows going on around here during various festivals, and I’m likely to see a few of those.
Code Monkey appreciates Coulton’s Web page. Not just here’s all sorts of music, but putting together a primer is a great idea.
