What scheme is this? Lightyear Alliance?

A friend recently invited me over to hear about a “business opportunity”. Something about making “extra money”. I asked what it was all about as I was instantly a bit skeptical. She said her husband had heard about and talked with this gentleman about some program where you setup a website and sell telecom stuff. “Telecom stuff” sounded neat but then she went on to explain that it was cell phones and plans that me or anyone I know would be purchasing anyway. Sounded very much like a spiel I heard from a classmate in college about a website where you order things like toilet paper and toothpaste, etc. and the money just rolls in!

Anyway, clearly a giant pyramid scheme but at this point in the conversation I didn’t want to argue the fact, so I politely said I was busy the day they’d be inviting people over to hear about this awesome “business opportunity”.

My question is, has anyone else heard about this scheme? Is it Lightyear Alliance as my Google searches seem to indicate? Is it just a pyramid scheme or is this just some kind of affiliate deal? Anyone have the Straight Dope on what’s surely the next fail safe recession proof business opportunity?

Does this company have a name?

I mean, the statistics look pretty bad, what with the zero average net gain schemes out there, but this could really be the one!

That’s kind of what I’m trying to figure out. She didn’t provide one so I just ended up randomly searching. Lightyear Alliance seemed to fit the description. Just wanted a second opinion from others that may have heard of such a scheme. I know this is a giant scam, but convincing the gf is going to take a little more explanation than, “I just know it’s a pyramid scheme, ok?” Like my uncle who thought he had won the lottery. He calls me and when I tell him it’s spam and just to delete it he asks me how I know!

Just trying to get all the facts to file away into the useless knowledge section of my brain!
