Well, you gonna tell us what you decide?
I’d go for a car, or a small pickup so you can take the bike with you if you want to after you get that too.

Swords are illegal in many places. If you live in a place where it is still legal to own a sword, then do so now while you still can. When it becomes illegal for you to own a sword, then you can buy a car or bike. The odds are, that it will be legal for you to own a car, in more places and for a longer period of time, than a sword.
I am going to get the sword (maybe not first) just so as to get the damn dilema out of the way. I can say “well I’ve got it now. Shut up. No I will not please put the weapon on the floor and your hands in the air sir!”
I am also going to get the bike. I need the excercise, I need to be able feel the feeling of getting to the top of a big hill and just collapsing on the grass and looking at the view.
I’ll put the car on a back-burner. I don’t need one and I don’t particularly crave one, And hopefully a bike will serve the purpose for which I wanted a car.
Lobsang ;
Remember your thread from yesterday? About always doing what’s right instead of what you want? Get the sword, dude. And get a nice one. Spend some cash on something wildly extravagant and not at all necessary.
Make sure to educate yourself on swords so you know what to look for and will get the most for your money. I suggest poking around at www.swordforum.com
I say bike, and not just because I currently really need one.
Cars are evil and gas costs more money. Bah!
Swords, now yes very very cool. I collect them myself. But while Gandalf’s looks cool for that price it is not a practicle weapon. I’m not sure what your looking for exactly, but if you want something you can play with and lob off heads with if nessisary your gonna need a few hundred more pounds. I know the one your looking to buy and yes, its looks sweeter than fructose, but its just a wallhanger and not something to work out with. The bio from the link says its tempered 420 J2 stainless and theres a whole science behind it but that basically means it doesn’t hold an edge well and its heavy. Its not nessiarily a bad thing but its not great either. If you really want something impressive, save up more and then get one custom made for you. Why have the Glamdring when you can have the Lobsanginator!?
Bikes are great. No pollution, you get exercise and fresh air. If you live in the city you can use it to get around. It’s slower than a bus or car but after using it for a while you’ll have more energy and feel all around better. So my advice is to get a bike, save the money you’d waste on gas for a car and then buy yourself a sword. But if you do decide on the sword, don’t buy from the local shop. It’ll be cheaper online because there is always a ridiculous markup from stores.
Put it this way.
When the Highlander swords came out, a friend of mine paid $179 for it.
After the series closed down, I found mine at an on-line liquidator for $19.95 plus $6.95 shipping. $26.90 total.
Just be patient. Glamdring shall be yours. Cheap.
Would that be part of the big display of swords and armour and stuff which they have in the buy-sell-exchange on Strand Street?
I wouldn’t go with that man - it’s not good value for money. If you want a quality weapon you need a dedicated supplier (and funnily enough, I know plenty - does that make me weird?:))
I miss my Island. I’m stuck at university failing exams right now (no kidding either:() but I’ll be back a week tomorrow…
Nope green_dragon. It’s in a shop at Tynwald Mills.
I’ve held the sword and it seems to be good quality. They also have the elvish swords that the Hobbits use.
Which Uni are you at?
a sword? I don’t get it.
What island do you live on? Motor scooters are great for islands. Then maybe you could still buy the sword. But how can you know it’s really authentic? And does something like that increase in value? I would think not.
authenticity is the last thing on my mind. It’s heavy, it’s shiny, and it looks like Glamdring.

(stupid vbulletin)
click my www button, not the accidental link in my last post.
Ah well fair enough…did I at least have the shop right?
Stainless steel is totally wrong for swords, it’s all right for knives but sword blades have to handle a lot of structural stress from being slammed around.
Many “show” swords have skinny little welded-on tangs inside the hilt that will snap like a toothpick if you so much as wave the sword around to violently.
