What should I name my next computer?

Voted for Socrates but Plato sounds better.

“Screwtape” or “Nothing”

From “The Screwtape Letters” by C.S. Lewis

Mike.

I named my network devices after characters from Jean Giraud’s Aedena Cycle: stel, atana, burg. The only exception is the network drive toto.

I chose something else. When I was in electronics school, I named by backup discs meningitis 01, 02, etc. How about unexpected or disconcerting names like mondotronic or yelverton?

I like to keep a running theme, so for yours I’d pick Socrates and then just keep naming them after philosophers. Plato, Nietzsche, Foucault, the list is full of names that also sound neat for a PC name.

For me, I name them after scientists. My home PC right now is Darwin and my work PC is Galileo. Before those I had Newton and Curie. My brother has a dead president theme going. I think his current PC is Eisenhower.

Well I named my first Big Bertha, didn’t think to name the next. Now you got me thinkin…

My computers and iPods have gotten S names for no real reason. The newest addition is Spiffy.

I have had 2 computers and both were named PANE. The C drive has always been named **Curtains **and when we added a second hard drive to the first computer (D drive) it was named Drapes.

I bet you will never guess what OS I’m using.

My old computer was Cray. When I got it, I thought it was a super little computer.
Cray was followed by Beastie, because it was a bit of a beast.
My laptop started life as Heppy the HP, but is now Ploppy because I moved in with my SO, and his household naming theme was Blackadder characters. Blackadder is the server, Edmund is his laptop, Baldrick is his previous laptop, the MythTV box in the lounge is Bob and the one in the bedroom is Percy, the printer is George and the modem is called Nursey. My next computer will be Flashheart - woof woof!

I don’t name anything that won’t respond to its name. So as far as I’m concerning the only things worth naming are children and dogs.

What about deaf children and deaf dogs?

Unix? Running the X Window System?

Or Kali.

Dave.

My mind is going, Dave…

Thats got to be the most awesomely funny thing I have read in days.

A few years ago, back in the Windows 98 days, my computer was named Beelzebub. This was because it always seemed to be harboring Evil Spirits.

Sounds like a Hoover with attachments.
