What should US liberal do now?

pick a presidential candidate in 2020 who isn’t carrying tons of baggage and knows how to win.

(Hillary lost the primary in 2008 and the general election last Nov )

I think we are going to see a lot of spam modding. I was not aware that you couldn’t post phone numbers (I’ve seen phone numbers and addresses to congressional offices). Or donation lines (I’ve seen numbers for disaster relief donation numbers). I’ve even seen gofundme and kickstarter links.

I’m not saying you’re wrong or inconsistent, just that we are all going to be getting a lesson on what constitutes spam (which I always thought mean advertising a for profit enterprise in the hopes of getting people to buy my product or service).

We ALL have our embarrassing relatives. I can probably youtube an incredibly embarrassing Republican for every embarrassing Democrat yu could come up with and we would both be dead of old age before either of us ran out.

I guess you can try. However on the web its clearly the left who are looking like the bigger idiots. I mean that post inauguration stuff was just one big wacko, leftie, circus begging to be exposed.

What gets me is why dont the organizers of such events police and control the participants better? For example, when people show up in a vagina costume or some other wacko outfit, tell them to go somewhere else. I mean they go after counter-protesters. Why not police their own?

Did you see what Kellyanne Conway wore to the inauguration?

Well, I tried calling some elected representatives. They are not answering the phone and their voicemail is full. I expect that will be true a lot of the time. I guess I should whip out the stamps and paper.

Yeah, the moderation surprised me, too. We are still supposed to post links to sources of information, right? Should I go to “about this message board” to ask for clarification?

Funny, that’s what we all said about the first Tea Party rallies a few years back. Bring on the wackos, I say… it obviously works.

Hey there. Confirmation bias much?

I’ve decided to support traditional news, with reporters and editors. Bought subscriptions to few news sources.

They did. They banned pro-life feminists from the march. Anti-abortion feminism - Wikipedia

The idiots on the web have been on the left recently because the left lost its mind after Trump got elected. Frankly, I was out of my mind for a few weeks as well but I was generally fine by Thanksgiving, others have not recovered as quickly.

Its not like the right didn’t lose their mind when we elected a black president.

Cite that they “banned pro-life feminists”?

Republicans in government didn’t give us Trump, the voters did. I think this crapstorm will just have to play its ugly self out and there really isn’t anything anyone can do until folks in the heartland wake up - I mean this in the sense that without Hoover, the Great Depression and the prolonged misery of the thirties we probably wouldn’t have had FDR. I’m gonna watch some movies and read some good books and just wait, although I’m kinda old and probably won’t be around for the ultimate reckoning.

I heartily co-sign your self-prescription if that’s going to keep you happy and healthy. Sounds pretty awesome.

I’m sorry for choosing your comment as an example, but I want to gently point out to others that being able to “just wait” is a luxury for many Americans. And that many more of us who might be able to wait things out feel like solidarity compels us to not wait it out, either. Though each individual effort is probably futile - or possibly counterproductive, if we’re carrying a giant vagina puppet.

That’s why “calm down,” “give him a chance,” and “police what the people at your protest are wearing” are not things I plan on doing until something changes to bring gentility, civility, and Doing Leftish Politics The Right Way to the top of my to-do list.

Well, I’m not convinced (judging by some of my own relatives) that the people who voted him in are amenable to changing their minds until they themselves are suffering from the policies that will be coming down the pike. And I do mean “great depression” type suffering. I predict that they won’t wake up until it is their personal ox getting gored.

Sounds absolutely plausible, and I’m sorry I didn’t emphasize that in my response.

I was just trying to say that this inertia (and it’s probably real inertia) shouldn’t be used as an argument against progressive attempts at change* - because some leftish people don’t feel like they, or people they care about, will make it whole through the first stages of that suffering.

*Which isn’t an argument you were making, pohjonen - so, again, sorry for using a small part of your post as a counter-example. I was trying to draw a connection to arguments being made earlier in the thread.

It’s okay. I wasn’t taking your post as a personal dig.

Right on!

Yes indeed.

And what the Democratic Party must do is demonstrate that it is the party of labor, both organized and unorganized.

Go to war against Taft-Hartley. Support unions and unionization whenever and wherever possible. Become the party of labor.

Refrain from demonizing white working-class people. If liberals (progressives, whatever you call them/us) give the impression that they think working-class white people are ignorant hillbillies, we’ve lost them. Instead, demonize Wall Street.

Groom candidates without ties to Wall Street. We saw that being linked to Wall Street sure as hell didn’t help Hillary Clinton.
