Revenge, before that was Friday Night Lights, new season of Scandal, Madame Secretary, Criminal Minds and West Wing. somewhere in there was Orange is the new Black, The Unbreakable Kimmie Schmidt, Shameless (us version) and another I can’t think of the name.
What I’ve seen and enjoyed recently:
Bomb Girls
Land Girls
Call the Midwife
You can see where my interests lie.
I just finished Happy Valley. I enjoyed it.
All shows eventually end except the Simpsons.
Luther. Love it.
We just finished watching Blackstone, which is five seasons long. The story arc takes place mostly on a Cree reservation (it’s Canadian), and stars mostly Native American actors. It’s rated at about 2.5 stars, and for good reason. While it was an honest effort, it was also fairly amateurish in the directing, writing and editing categories. The first couple of seasons utilizes a handheld camera and is so frenetic it gave me a headache. That settles down quite a bit in the succeeding seasons, but the editing remains choppy throughout, and some of the plotting is just silly, but it also points out the very real and serious problems that exist on reservations.
I’m still catching up on Penny Dreadful, which is far more entertaining than I thought it would be.
We’re also watching Shetland, a cop procedural set in the Shetland Islands. It’s not bad, if a bit predictable.
Season five (?) of Longmire is starting this month, which we will definitely watch.
It doesn’t count if I haven’t heard it.
I am sorry if I spoiled the fact that it has an ending… I wish I could live in blue bell ![]()
I watch the first season of Narcos recently, and liked it enough that i’ll probably watch Season 2, which was just released.
On DVD, we’ve been watching Season 1 of the Lisa Kudrow series Web Therapy. My wife really likes it, and there are enough laughs and cringe-inducing moments for me to find it entertaining.
My wife is watching Sons of Anarchy. It is so terrible I have to put in earphones every time she watches it.
As for binging, I recently enjoyed Stranger Things. I also saw Bojack Horseman S3, which was okay but not as good as last season.
Mascots looks great- thanks for the notice!
I just finished Fortitude which is on Amazon Prime but wowser… what a grim weird show…
On Netflix we recently finished and surprisingly liked Stranger Things. I also really liked* Bloodline*- it was a slow starter but really picked up steam as it went along…
I binged Stranger Things, practically in one sitting. Then a few days later I suggested it to my wife and we watched it together, and we both thought it was excellent.
Following recommendations from other 'dopers, we watched A Very Secret Service and found it to be pretty funny, and very French.
Also based on 'doper recommendations, I finally watched Don’t Trust the B in Apt. 23. It was better than I expected, but the humor leveled off for me after the first couple of episodes.
I also watched Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (I think that was on Hulu, though). I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it, because there is no aspect of the show that appeals to me, on paper. But it was consistently clever and the jokes surprised me often enough that it was worth watching during this summer lull. And it wasn’t until I was like six episodes in before I realized that the main character was the person who did “Fuck me, Ray Bradbury”!
The second season of Narcos is next for the wife and I to watch together.
Its always sunny in philadelphia. I don’t know what took me so long to start this show. Netflix and friends kept recommending it, but I never really watched it. It is incredible. I’m on season 5 now. I try not to binge too much, because then I get sick of a show. However every couple days I will watch 4-5 episodes back to back.
Black mirror was great, Netflix is going to release 12 new episodes sometime this year.
I didn’t care for Hemlock Grove, but I did enjoy ‘Being Human’ (the US version). I went through that entire series in a month.
Old TimevShowtime - Californication and Nurse Jackie.
Yeah, Fortitude was really weird. Liked Bloodline a lot, especially the Danny character.
In addition to the shows mentioned in my previous post, the missus and i have also been watching a crime drama called Marcella.
It’s marketed as a Netflix original, but it’s not original to Netflix the way that shows like House of Cards or Narcos are. It aired on ITV in the UK, and is now available on Netflix.
It has eight episodes, and we’ve watched six so far. It’s by the same guy who created and produced the Danish/Swedish crime drama Bron/Broen/The Bridge. Marcella isn’t as great as The Bridge, which is one of my all-time favorite shows, but it’s pretty good.
American Crime, and also getting through The West Wing and Orange is the New Black (most recent season)
