I sleep on the right. It’s the side closest to the window, furthest from the bathroom, and furthest from Cranky Jr. I seriously couldn’t tell you why I got that side. I guess because it duplicates the sleeping arrangements at Mr Cranky’s old apartment.
My mom and dad sleep the other way (Mom’s on the left).
When travelling, I usually sleep on the side with the better lamp, because I’m the bigger nighttime reader. Sometimes it feels weird to be sleeping on the “other” side, but not usually.
I have a really old single bed, somewhere in size between a twin and a full-size, I think. Needless to say I sleep smack in the middle, because there isn’t anywhere else to go.
The bed was built when people were a good deal shorter than my 5’9", so my heels sometimes hang over the bottom edge, depending on how much I slide south during the night.
I keep it because it’s a family piece and has a wicked awesome carved wooden head and foot board. One of these nights it’s gonna come alive and kill me though, I swear. (Heh. Thurber’s story about the bed falling hits a bit close to home for my taste…!)
I sleep on the right side in our own bed. For some reason in every other bed, including the one in our guest bedroom, I sleep on the left side of the bed.
I sleep on the right side of the bed, and on my left side (facing out). From looking around my fiance’s room, I believe he has the same sleeping pattern. However, the nights that we have shared together he has taken the left side of the bed. What a guy, huh?
Your supposed to sleep! The 4 nights out of the week that I do get to sleep (weird work and class schedule) I sleep on the right side of the bed.
You mean theres sides to the bed??
Please, don’t tell my husband that I read that, he thinks I have no idea about beds having sides, and hes very nice about me sprawling out all over the bed during the night.
Most mornings I find myself sideways in the bed. Still trying to figure that one out.
The side I crawl into and I suppose you could call ‘my side’ would be the left. But in a matter of and hour or even less, I have claimed the entire bed, and he is clutching one side or the other just to stay on. We’ve gotten the biggest bed we can find… but I manage to take up all the space there. My solution was to put two together and make a bedframe to fit the two… be hes probably right, I would find a way to stake a claim on as much of that as I could as well.
I too have the luxury of sleeping on whichever side of the bed I want.
A while ago, though, I shared a bed with someone for a month. When it came time to pick “sides”, he chose the right side. This worked out well for the both of us, as 1) the left side of the bed was in the corner of the room, exactly as my own bed in my room is, and 2) the right side made for easy entry and exit of the bed, which was convenient for him as he had to wake up before I did to go to work.
I forsee myself developing a preference for the left sides of beds as a result of the experience.
My husband sleeps to my left (I’m a back-sleeper) - we picked these sides for no logical reason, and that’s the way it is. We tried switching for a short time, but it was too weird. When he’s on travel, I stray from my side to the middle.
When I’m on travel, I pick the bed farthest from the door, the side closest to the door. If there’s only one bed, I take the side nearest the phone.
I sleep on the left from the perspective you describe. My folks slept the opposite way. I’m not sure which way my wife’s folks slept.
It’s funny, but on vacations, we almost ALWAYS sleep on the opposite side. I was just at my folks house for a week and I realize that we slept on the opposite side. (I think it’s because I read late and the lamp was on the other side.) Also, I have a friend near Champaign Urbana, and when we visit him and his wife I sleep on the opposite side on their bed. Weird. I’ve lived in four different locations with my wife and I’ve always slept on the same side. Except on vacations.
As you face the bed, I sleep on the right side. This is because Pepper Mill knew that the left was her side. I don’t know why this is, but it had apparently been Decreed somewhere, and I must have missed that meeting.
I’m not complaining, mind you. I’m just amazed and bewildered that This Is THe Way Things Are, and it brroks no argument.
Actually, when we’re on vacation I often sleep on the opposite side, if there’s only one lamp and it’s there – I read later into the night than Pepper.
If Susan’s at my house, I sleep on the right side. If I’m at Susan’s, I sleep on the left. It makes no difference to me, as I sleep like the proverbial rock and have been known to get a pefect night’s sleep sitting in a lawn chair. I pity insomniacs - a good night’s sleep is one of life’s true joys.
Well having a single bed I sleep in the middle… sometimes right on the edge as well (a number of times I’ve woken up half falling out of bed the only thing keeping me there being my hand on the floor and my elbow locked) When I have a bigger bed (and I did for a bit before I moved and got a smaller room) I sleep all over but generally in the middle or to the left* and when I have someone else in my bed I sleep to the right but when they wake up I slip to the left and/or centre again… Usually if me and Mom go somewhere and stay in a hotel we end up sharing a bed as it’s cheaper (ie went to PEI with me, Mom, Nanna and my brother we had 2 beds and a pull-out) this is how I know my ‘side’ as it were… haven’t had the chance to share a bed with a guy yet.
** Taken from the POV of standing at the end of the bed and facing the head.*
On full moons and on Halloween, I sleep hanging upside down under a yew tree. During any other lunar stage, I sleep in a sleeping bag strapped to the wall. I’m not sure whether or not the bag will hold the weight of any future Reduktresses, though, so eventually, I’ll have to stop lying, and admit that I sleep on a twin bed in whatever position on which I happen to collapse.
