Which side of the bed do you sleep on? Is it related to your handedness? Is it a mostly sleeping comfort choice, or is it mostly an intimacy choice? Do you face toward your partner, or away?
For the purposes of this poll, the right and left sides of the bed are as viewed facing from the foot of the bed.
I considered including gender and sexual preference, but it made the poll unnecessarily complex. Feel free to include it in your post.
I’m right handed (and a guy). I sleep on the left side of the bed.
Before we got married, I had a queen-sized waterbed, and always slept on the “left” side there, too, even when alone. My wife always slept on the “right” side of the bed, so neither of us had to make an adjustment…the conversation never even came up.
We tend to face away from each other when we sleep; we have a queen-sized bed, and, when we face each other, tend to feel a little claustrophobic.
Left handed, sleep on the left side. BUT, I used to sleep on the right side of the bed until I got pregnant. Then I wanted to be on the side of the bed where the open sliding door was to get the cool breeze. We never switched back.

When I was married, neither. I’m sort of tall, and I like to sleep diagonally on a Queen or larger bed. She (and others) said I snored, too, but that’s not true. I go for LH (and I’m a rightie) if I had to choose.
I’m right-handed and sleep on the right side, too. For me, though, it has nothing to do with my handedness. I usually have to get up at least once a night to go to the bathroom and if I slept on the other side I’d have to climb over my boyfriend to get out of bed, most likely waking him up. He usually sleeps the whole night without getting up, so I get the side with easier access to the door. If we’re in a hotel or someone else’s house, I always sleep on whichever side allows me easier access to the bathroom.
My choice has only been since 1968. Last week due to a catherer following bladder cancer surgery. we were forced to change sides. Aruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh.
Right side, right handed, female. I would prefer to be on the left side because it’s quieter and closer to the door, but he has nightmares over here. He’s right handed too.
My husband and I both prefer him to be closer to the door. So here at our new house, I sleep on the right side, but for the previous 15 years or so, I was on the left. I’m right handed.
Yep, this was the pattern when I was married. I usually slept between my wife and any theoretical axe murderer who may have chosen to enter our room. However during and forever after her first pregnancy this changed to, she slept closest to the bathroom. Evidently actual nighttime bathroom visits took priority over theoretical axe murderers. Neither of these were ever concerns for me, so I yielded on the issue.
Here is the full pattern of 13 years of marriage: Left, Right, Left, Left, Right, Left. I’m right handed.
Right handed. I sleep on the side nearest the wall, or if it’s equidistant, the side furthest from the door. In the last few places where we’ve slept, it’s been 3 times on the right-hand side of the bed and 2 times on the left. Next week, when my girlfriend visits me in my new house, it’ll be 4R to 2L.
Oh, the last chick I was shacked up with was diminutive (read: short as hell) and really liked to be against a wall, so, by default, I got the side away from the wall, since I hate being cooped up in a bed without being able to escape if she turned all crazy. In fact, I prefer the bed right in the middle of the room so there’s no “bad” side – no headboard either. Just like the Alfred Jarry thing about the Pataphysician who sailed to wondrous places on his bed. (ETA with this chick there weren’t no terrific places, but I still had good dreams).
Because at the last house, we didn’t have AC and the right side was next to the window where we put the fan. At this house, we have AC and I wanted to be on the side with the vent.
When we started living together, my (future) wife started off using the “axe murderer” logic on me, but she changed her mind back and forth on the issue until we finally reached equilibrium at “her on left, me on right”.
We don’t sleep face to face, because (as my wife succinctly puts it): “CO2!”
