Seems that most people I know, myself included, have a queen size bed. Doesn’t seem to matter whether or not they’re single. But that’s a small sampling size, and could be coincidental.
So, what size is your bed?
By the way, with regard to the poll, I didn’t know if there were different size names in other parts of the world (and I assume there are), so feel free to mark “other” and explain in your post, or to just mark the closest equivalent.
I went down from a king to a queen when my wife and I split. I thought, “Well, it’s not like I’m sharing a bed with anyone anymore, so why would I need that?”
Twin. It’s a small apartment, and I can use all the extra space I can get. When I’m a hotel, I almost don’t know what to do with all the space in a queen- or king-size bed.
(There’s a furniture maker in Vermont, and I went to their factory sale a couple years ago. I picked up a very nice, cherry, queen-size frame for half price. If my next apartment has room, I’ll go mattress shopping.)
160cm x 200 cm (63in x 79in) which is Continental Europe/Latin America queen size according to Wikipedia. I’m sharing it with a boyfriend and two cats though so I have effectively 1/3 of the bed to my self.
I remember the first time I slept on a full and marveled at ALL THE SPACE I HAD. For most of my life I had to sleep on a twin. Now I share a queen size. We’re comfortable, although I’m sure neither of us would object to a bigger mattress if we had the chance.
We have a queen size, which is plenty for us, especially considering that the first five years we lived together, we shared a full-size. Queen felt downright decadent when we finally upgraded!
We’ve thought about going to a king-size, but we’ve invested hundreds and hundreds of dollars in a bed frame/headboard/footboard, not to mention really good sheets (we’re bedding snobs!) If we went to king-size, we’d have to replace all that. And have you looked at the price on 1,000 thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets for a king mattress? We’d have to take out a second mortgage!
after spending six years sleeping together on a full size bed, we upgraded to a king when we bought a house. We looked around for the perfect mattress and bought gorgeous sheets and nicer pillows, and I really wish we’d done so sooner. I may not care much about furniture or decorating generally, but I’m never downgrading my bed.
King. I’m 5’11" and my husband is 6’3", and I like a LOT of space when I sleep.
We’re shopping for a new bed and mattress soon, and it’s one of the areas in my life where I won’t skimp a bit. I spend more time there than I do anywhere else in my life, and it’s going to be comfortable. Our first mattress, bought in 2003, was a department store sale mattress, and it’s already sagging and misshapen.
Queen, but I wouldn’t mind a king. My wife doesn’t want to go that big because she’s afraid the weekly sheet washing would take even longer, as we don’t have a high-capacity washer.
I think the sizing is pretty ridiculous, frankly. A full is 54 inches wide, and the queen is 60 inches wide, for a six inch difference. But to go from a queen to a king is sixteen freaking inches- why the huge jump? Why not something in the 66-68 inch range? That would be perfect.
