What size is your bed?

Seems that most people I know, myself included, have a queen size bed. Doesn’t seem to matter whether or not they’re single. But that’s a small sampling size, and could be coincidental.

So, what size is your bed?

By the way, with regard to the poll, I didn’t know if there were different size names in other parts of the world (and I assume there are), so feel free to mark “other” and explain in your post, or to just mark the closest equivalent.

By total coincidence, we just moved up in size two days ago.

We had been sleeping on a queen bed for years, and decided to move up to king. Just got it delivered on Friday.

It’s fantastic. I never realized how much I missed the space until I could really spread out.

I went down from a king to a queen when my wife and I split. I thought, “Well, it’s not like I’m sharing a bed with anyone anymore, so why would I need that?”

I regret that decision now.

I sleep in a single futon, which is about the size of a full.

In the US, I slept on a full.

I’m not queen-sized, but I do sleep on a queen. By myself, usually. And sometimes with cats.

Twin extra-long. Yay dorm living!

Twin. It’s a small apartment, and I can use all the extra space I can get. When I’m a hotel, I almost don’t know what to do with all the space in a queen- or king-size bed.

(There’s a furniture maker in Vermont, and I went to their factory sale a couple years ago. I picked up a very nice, cherry, queen-size frame for half price. If my next apartment has room, I’ll go mattress shopping.)

I voted “other”. I sleep in a 180 cm wide bed.I don’t know what royalty that would be.

California King. I’m a sprawler.

Twin. Same bed I’ve had since I was a small child. Never had the opportunity/inclination to get a new one. I don’t sprawl.

160cm x 200 cm (63in x 79in) which is Continental Europe/Latin America queen size according to Wikipedia. I’m sharing it with a boyfriend and two cats though so I have effectively 1/3 of the bed to my self.

I remember the first time I slept on a full and marveled at ALL THE SPACE I HAD. For most of my life I had to sleep on a twin. Now I share a queen size. We’re comfortable, although I’m sure neither of us would object to a bigger mattress if we had the chance.

Queen, unless I’m camping. Then it’s one of those super tight mummy bags on top of this XXL sleeping pad.

Oh my god, is that thing comfortable.

We have a queen size, which is plenty for us, especially considering that the first five years we lived together, we shared a full-size. Queen felt downright decadent when we finally upgraded!

We’ve thought about going to a king-size, but we’ve invested hundreds and hundreds of dollars in a bed frame/headboard/footboard, not to mention really good sheets (we’re bedding snobs!) If we went to king-size, we’d have to replace all that. And have you looked at the price on 1,000 thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets for a king mattress? We’d have to take out a second mortgage!

Standard Matress Sizes

Our queen bed (1.m 60) holds two tall adults, and most nights, two cats, and in the morning one toddler.

I grew up on a twin bed, and found it plenty big for me. I like to curl up into a tiny little thing, anyways.

Then, when I moved out of the dorms and to my own apartment, I got a full. It was about the same prize as a twin, so why not? I’ve had it since.

When I’ve shared beds, it’s usually been full or rarely queens. It’s still plenty of space, since again, I curl up.

If anything, I’d like a bedframe that won’t move (my bed has wheels) and a mattress that is slightly less noisy.

after spending six years sleeping together on a full size bed, we upgraded to a king when we bought a house. We looked around for the perfect mattress and bought gorgeous sheets and nicer pillows, and I really wish we’d done so sooner. I may not care much about furniture or decorating generally, but I’m never downgrading my bed.

King. I’m 5’11" and my husband is 6’3", and I like a LOT of space when I sleep.

We’re shopping for a new bed and mattress soon, and it’s one of the areas in my life where I won’t skimp a bit. I spend more time there than I do anywhere else in my life, and it’s going to be comfortable. Our first mattress, bought in 2003, was a department store sale mattress, and it’s already sagging and misshapen.

Queen, but I wouldn’t mind a king. My wife doesn’t want to go that big because she’s afraid the weekly sheet washing would take even longer, as we don’t have a high-capacity washer.

I think the sizing is pretty ridiculous, frankly. A full is 54 inches wide, and the queen is 60 inches wide, for a six inch difference. But to go from a queen to a king is sixteen freaking inches- why the huge jump? Why not something in the 66-68 inch range? That would be perfect.

I sleep on a floormat. If you try doing this for two weks, you will never go back to a bed.
