What song do you want played at your funeral?

I’ll be mellow when I’m dead. Weird Al
Stuck in the middle with you. Steelers Wheeels
Take five.Dave Brubeck Quartet

There are a few more that right now slip my mind

Ok, I’m having a whole “playlist”. No sermons, no eulogies, just music.

Yesterday but it MUST be the Beatles. If someone tries to pull any of that “remake” crap at my funeral, I’ll haunt their closet for life.

Blackbird The Beatles

Free As a Bird The Beatles

Fragile Sting

**Don’t Fear the Reaper ** Blue Oyster Cult

In My Life The Beatles

Tears in Heaven Eric Clapton

Here Today Paul McCartney

Nights in White SatinMoody Blues

OthersideRed Hot Chilli Peppers

End of the Line The Traveling Wilburies

That’s all I can think for right now. Though I have the feeling there is more. I want a lot of music at my funeral. I’m not a musician, but I have used music many times in my life to convey how I feel.

Very nice. And so few people know that song.

I’d have to go with the first movement from Carmina Burana, by Carl Orff. Or perhaps Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D-Minor, or something similarly creepy.

I have to fourth the " Amazing Grace" but on violin. Bagpipes are so overdone…

“I’ve been cheated,
been mistreated,
when will I be loved?”

A minor league baseball PA announcer was once ejected for playing this over the loudspeakers after a disputed call at a baseball game. Another was ejected for playing the theme (no words) to the Mickey Mouse Club

Maha Mrityunjaya, chanted by a deep-voiced Dane as they scatter my ashes over the ice plants along the Pacific Coast Highway just south of San Simeon. I think the chanter is named Gert.

I really should transfer the only tape I have of this to CD. I’d probably drive off the road if the tape got ruined.

If they can no longer muster an Irish Jig or two at my wake, all my forebears will roll over in their Auld Sod graves!

“Paradise City” Guns n Roses

“Don’t Cry” by Gn’R followed up with the Dropkick Murphys version of “Amazing Grace”

punk snot dead

“Amazing Grace,” played by Chris Squire of Yes on the electric bass.

“Amazing Grace” played on the Pipes of course…but at the graveside done by a real piper, not on a recording during the funeral…

“Life Without You” by Stevie Ray Vaughn, maybe (might be a little too much, maybe “Little Wing” instead…)

Loreena McKennit’s version of “Bonny Portmore”

“He” by the Righteous Brothers (cool blue-eyed soul gospel)

Just as long as there isn’t that cheezy ambient organ music you always hear before, during and after funerals. If they do play that crap, I’ll get up and unplug the speakers myself!

without any doubt, and it also happens to be my favorite song…“Wish You Were Here”-Pink Floyd

I want “By My Side” from Godspell played at my funeral. It has a hauntingly beautiful melody and the song’s theme of going on a journey is appropriate for a funeral.
I want people to cry their eyes out when I die.

Some that have been mentioned before:

Imagine, by John Lennon

What a Wonderful World, by Louie Armstrong,

and as it ends,

On Green Dolphin Street, as played by Miles Davis on the Stella by Starlight album (with John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, and Bill Evans, probably the greatest jazz band there ever was, with the exception of Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie jammin’ all by themselves), just because that has to be just about the most beautiful melody line ever written.

Either no music at all, or Herbie Hancock’s “Maiden Voyage”. After that, it’s time to dump me into the river.

I want ‘Abide With Me’.
And also ‘Jerusalem’, but not the vocal version; I want that incredible Grimethorpe Colliery Band one from “Brassed Off”.

When my ashes are on display, the only thing I want to be played is some very simple classical… Water Music is appropriate for me…

I would hope that my daughter would sing, as I think she’s going to have an incredible voice.

Also, if I have time, I will have played a message from myself to all those that are there… assuming I haven’t died from Flaming Death falling from the sky or something… hehehe

At the party, only happy music will be played, and if anyone cries at my moving on, they will be kicked in the nuts. Seriously.

I’ll echo Funeral with a Friend and I also want See You On The Other Side by Ozzy Osbourne
