Yesterday I heard “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay” by Otis Redding, and I thought to myself, I bet I have heard that song more than any other song in my life. Then I thought for a minute, maybe I have heard “Satisfaction” by the Stones the most?
The song I’ve heard most often would be Leonard Cohen’s Halleluja, I’ve heard it countless times sung by the master himself, Rufus Wainwright and of course Jeff Buckley.
A close second would be Nick Cave’s Halleluja, but I listen to that at least 3-4 times a day.
It has nothing to do with them both being called Halleluja, they just both happen to be fantastic pieces of music.
Mines is “Heaven Must be missing an Angel” by Tavares. Most of you may have heard it in the movie “Charlie’s Angels”. I remember when this song first came out back in 1976, and I have listened to that song more times than any other song I’ve ever heard in my life…and I’m STILL not tired of hearing it.
The songs I’ve heard the most: On purpose :
Recently-- The Last Beautiful Girl by Matchbox 20
Lifetime-- wow, there’s a bunch, but I’ll settle with Under Pressure by Queen
Because I didn’t get a vote
Recently-- I don’t know what it’s called, something about suicide, I believe by System of the Down
Lifetime-- Welcome to the Jungle, GNR
I will poke my eyes out–or someone elses–if I ever have to listen to this again:
Recently-- I’m OK with the recent stuff (so far).
Lifetime-- The End (The Doors), Stairway to Heaven, and almost everything by Fleetwood Mac.
Could I ask UselessGit to explain Hallelujah to me? I am sorry to be so dumb. I have it (sung by Rufus Wainwright) on a disc I got at Starbucks and I really like it but don’t totally get it. The notes say it was in Shrek, which I only saw once and I didn’t really pay much attention to it because jokes about farting and burping just don’t go very far with me. Wearisome. They used it on the West Wing episode when CJ’s secret service boyfriend got killed. Very haunting.
It’s my Life by Bon Jovi and Easier to Run by Linkin Park, not only because they’re both songs that I listen to anyway, but I’ve made music videos with each of these songs, and now have intimate knowledge of every word, beat, and rhythm.
And after making each of those videos, I believe it took me a full two days to get the music out of my head.
Real Emotion by Koda Kumi/Jade also has a good run at it. I have three different versions of the song, and three different videos as well.
The very first time I saw an item called a Singing Alarm Clock, I felt I had to have one. So for the past umpty-dozen years my normal day has started with James Brown’s “I Feel Good” blasting away.
My most heard song’s gotta be I Feel Good. Other than that, I couldn’t begin to guess!
Lilith Fair, I wish I could explain. If you mean lyric-wise check out Cohen’s original. Wainwright’s version is probably easiest on the ears and I love it but musically speaking I have to recommend Cohen’s and Buckley’s version. In fact, if you like Halleluja, you should get Buckley’s Grace if you don’t have it. It’s a mesmerising CD. It all started for me with Cohen’s Famous Blue Raincoat which caused me to search for similar music. God, I forgot to mention that song earlier - I probably listen to Famous Blue Raincoat about as much as halleluja, and that’s just the leonard Cohen version. Accept no subtitutes.
There was a radio feed in the cafeteria where I ate my meals during my first year of college. I must have heard “U Can’t Touch This” by MC Hammer about 9000 times that year.
I do believe I’ve heard “Amazing Grace” more than any other song. I won’t give a particular artist’s rendition because it has been sung by so many different people.
