I love this song and I think it should have been an international hit. When I played it to a friend, the friend said:
“That guitar run has been done - that’s from another song”.
And when I think about, it does sound familiar to me too. But I cannot think of the song and neither can he.
Here’s song Angelyne.
I’m talking about the guitar part that repeats after the chorus, the first time at 0.42. Ignoring the bad sound quality, what song, if any, does that remind you of?
Can’t really make the guitar out during that part, are you sure you don’t mean the harmonica?
Ignoring the harmonica, the song in general reminds of the Gin Blossoms, although the twangy bits seem more country.
I’m not a great singer and didn’t want to sing too loudly with housemates around, but there’s an app called “soundhound” that will let you hum a song and it will try and ID it.
FWIW I hummed the guitar part at the end and it came up with
Bus Stop - The Hollies
Make the World Go Away - Eddy Arnold
Love Show - Skye
But I think if you or someone else with a better ear and singing voice tried it might make a better suggestion.
I get a Beatles flavor - can’t be more specific than that.
Yeah, I thought it sounded kind of George Harrison-ish, vaguely like “Cheer Down” maybe…but then I went back and listened to “Cheer Down” and there’s really no resemblance at all.
The guitar, definetely. Perhaps it’s clearer in this version at 0.14.
I think that melody line of the first “phrase” or something similar to it has been used before, I’m thinking possibly with the final two notes reversed. Not necessarily by a similar sounding band. And I think whatever it is is fairly famous. Then again, it might all be in me and my friend’s heads.
Yeah, the song definitely reminds me of the Gin Blossoms; and also of the Honeydogs’ Rumor Has It—but maybe that’s just me.
