There’s an old R&B or funk song from the 60s or 70s that has a call and response that my husband and I agree starts: Hola, hola hey (hola, hola hey) but we disagree and what the second part sounds like. To him it’s : rolley, rolley, rolley peice of pork-- yum! and to me it sounds more like: rolley, poley, poley cockatiel now!
Neither of us is right, I don’t think, but we both cannot remember what song this call and response bit belongs to. Can you help us out here?
Nope, not Minnie the Moocher. It was most definitely a soul, funk, R&B song that played on the radio. Probably around the same time that Fight The Power was popular because it may have been a protest song.
I’m usually useless either through lack of knowledge or lack of timeliness in these sorts of threads, so I’m really pleased I could contribute.
Before I’d even finished reading your first sentence, I said, “Oh, that’s Rollin’ With Kid 'N Play!” I posted that like a dumbass, all proud of myself, then re-read your OP and realized that a 1989 rap song did not exactly fit what you asked for. Fortunately, Kid N’ Play had sampled your song, so I was able to track down the answer anyway. And now I have a new song that I like, thanks to you!
Tsh. It would have been ten times funkier if they had thrown a “cockatiel now!” in there. Ripple would have gone on to mega-platinum status and would be remembered as one of the giants of the 1970’s ;).
You know what its like, you half remember something like this, turns out to be wrong but I couldn’t put my finger on it.
Anyhow, even though its not the OP’s song, I shall still post the link because I think you deserve to hear the original because its so full of summer, and October/November in the UK really needs some sunshine, so there!
