I don’t dance.
Welbywife, on the other hand, always starts to dance when she hears the Checker’s commercial.

Violet! I love that song by Chaka Khan!! Great dance tune.
AC/DC “Shook Me All Night Long”…especially drunk and at a wedding. The headbaning is the best.
ANYTHING by Stevie Wonder! Most ANYTHING by Michael Jackson! Anything from the '60s and '70s Motown catalog.
I sure can’t, Snug!! I used to be Janet - and my husband-to-be joined cast to get my phone number. We played “Time Warp” at our reception!!
There’s this Shakira song - don’t know the title, maybe “Eyes Like Yours”? - that my teacher played every week in my bellydance class. Can’t listen to it without shimmying my butt off.
I’m not much of a dancer…no natural rhythm or grace and an extreme sense of modesty cause me to be the one who stays and “guards the purses”…but once Short Skirt/Long Jacket by Cake comes on…I’m grooving all over the place!!
I’m not much of a dancer either, I always look like I’ve got a dislocated hip when I dance. Anyways, “Time Warp” does it to me every time, Whenever I hear “It’s just a jump to the left” I always have to jump to the left. It’s like a pavlovian response.
Another bellydancer! Mine are pretty diverse, but I’m a dance-a-holic.
Habibi*, Amr Diab
Solitary or Genesis, VNV Nation
Dancing With Myself, Boomtang Boys
Anarchy, KMFDM
Lots more, but those are off the top of my head. Most people probably don’t recognise some of them- goth music or Arabic stuff.
Dear Lord, can I get an AMEN??? Hallelujah!
Ditto for “Once You Get Started”!
Also:
Got To Be Real–Cheryl Lynn
Make it Funky–James Brown
Another Star–Stevie Wonder
Funk #49–James Gang
Aww, hell–I’m a dancin’ fool.
Did I mention “Skin Tight” by the Ohio Players? Because for some reason I can’t get it out of my head right now . . .
. . . nor can I get my ass to stop moving.
I find my body twitching when these start playing…
“Dancin’ in the Light” (Entrain)
“What You Need” (INXS)
“Mummer’s Dance” (Loreena McKennitt)
“Livin’ in the Fridge” (Weird Al)
“Traffic Jam” (Weird Al, again)
“Yoda” (Weird Al, yet again! “Lola” doesn’t do it for me, most of the time, which I find rather strange.)
And, oddly enough…
“Imperial March (Darth Vader’s Theme)”.
(The others are songs that I have no clue what they are called… stuff on some of my Mother’s old belly dance records.)
<< Oxymoron of the day: Amtrak schedule. >>
The first song that springs to mind is “It’s my life” by Talk talk. “Beautiful Day” and “Gloria” by U2. Almost anything 80s New Wave does it, too.
Any song by Celia Cruz, or any song from the Bachata Rosa album of 440.
I realize most of you won’t know what the heck I’m talking about, but both of those examples are some of the most danceable latin music ever. And as a caveat I should say that just about any salsa, merengue, rumba, danzon, bolero, guaracha, guaguanco, chachacha music will drive me to the dance floor, but the two listed above happen to hit me just right.
This thread makes me think of the ** Gong Show ** and “Gene, Gene the Dancing Machine.”
Merla, let me guess…Are you in your mid-30s? Your list is almost exactly the same as mine. Add to it:
“Whip-It” by Devo
“King of the Hill”
“Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana
“Melt with You” by Modern English
“Just like Heaven” by the Cure
“Dancing With Myself” by Billy Idol
mmm…
who is 33 and re-living many happy memories of high school dances and college frat parties.
“Dancing Queen” by ABBA
“Still the Night” by the BoDeans
“Little Red Corvette” by Prince
I soooo agree with this. I haven’t answered because I didn’t think anyone would know what I was talking about.
I must include
Vivir Lo Nuestro - Marc Anthony & India
Objection (Tango) - Shakira
Magalenha - Sergio Mendez
Pintame - Elvis Crespo
“Funky Town”
The jerks at the ice-skating rink had the nerve to play that one night – and I wound up with my arm immobilized for weeks.
sigh…
Vision Thing (Sisters of Mercy)
Closer (NIN)
Starf**kers Inc (Razed in Black cover of NIN song)
Red Right Hand (Nick Cave)
I love to dance
Almost anything by Jamiroquai. MJ has already been mentioned, no need to go there again.
I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve wiggled in my seat to a few Justin Timberlake songs…
Huh. It seems that your previous problem still hasn’t been solved. Poor girl.
