hangs her head in shame

I’m ashamed to admit this…

Play that Funky Music by Wild Cherry
Bilamos by Enrique Iglesias (I think)
Can’t Touch This by M.C. Hammer
Dancing Queen by Abba

I HATE Abba! Damn you, you Swedish supergroup, for making me dance to your insidious refrain!

B 52s - Love Shack

Ramones - I Wanna Be Sedated

I hate to admit this but, I do a lot of weekend D-Jing at wedding receptions and high school reunions. Now I know where all those freaking wierd requests come from and, have to ask. If you KNOW that no one else will know these off the beaten path tunes then why the heck do you so often request them?

I love the Safety Dance by Men Without Hats but, you really need an eighties inclined group to play it successfully. Along with a lot of the other songs mentioned in that era but, not all of them.

My next question is why do you not dance to these requests when the DJ finally gets them played? Sure you’ll be the only one on the floor but, why care? You obviously are a person of enlightenment. Show everyone what they are missing!

I really get my shorts frosted over requests that get no dancers. If you have the inclination to rip on the DJ because he ain’t playing anything decent then at least have the courtesy of showing him you really did want that song. Instead of proving him right about how bad a request it was.

Sorry to sound so dissapointed in the clan here but, take last night for instance. (A few tunes that never fail, failed miserably).

“Mustang Sally” Wilson Pickett
“Brown Eyed Girl” Van Morrison
“Y.M.C.A.” Village People (10 people out of 275)
“Complicated” Avril Lavigne
“I Will Survive” Gloria Gaynor

Of course, I often take note of the need to be original at each reception and keep from playing the same old-same old tunes but, I was overwhelmed by these requests. All these did great:

“Electric Boogie” Marcia Griffiths
“Hot Hot Hot” Buster Poindexter
“Macarena” Los Del Rio
“Duck Dance” and “Hokie Pokie” Oh yes I did play these two and got nearly the entire floor filled with young and old.

Take note, I usually don’t bitch about any slow songs because very few people really know how to dance to 'em anyway. most couples just shuffle away and have a great time together.

So, don’t be angry at the DJ for playing the same old worn out, overplayed and undeserving songs at your friends reception. You asked for it!
Hmmm, maybe I should’ve pitted this one

What the hell is the safety dance? I’ve never herad of it.
500 miles by the Proclaimes is practically my theme song.
If I hear it I am instantly on the dance floor jumping up and down like a madman.
Also, if I ever hear Rob Zombie, I HAVE to groove my stuff to it!

dating myself here, but

Devil With A Blue Dress/Good Golly Miss Molly – people must think i’m having fits when i play it on my car stereo and “dance” behind the wheel. (amazing how much moving you can do just from the hips up. 'course the bellydancing lessons were a help in isolating body movements.)

“I’m gonna wait till the midnight hour…” I hear that and I just CAN’T sit still! I was watching a movie in the theater and I still couldn’t resist a little foot-tapping, head-bobbing, and seat bouncing when this song played!

You can dance if you want, you can leave your friends behind…

Yea that one.

…and if you dont dance then your no friend of mine…

Mercury and Solace - BT. It starts to get boring, but then there is an actual verse. The most triumphant moment in pure dance music! My favorite song to dance to.
Insomnia - Faithless. My favorite dance song, period.
Amnesia - Chumbawamba.
Chemical - New Order.
Out of Control - Chemical Brothers.

ironically enough, Zyada, I never get the urge to dance to Dead Can Dance. hmmmmm.

A slightly strange choice, but it works for me… True Faith by New Order. Totally infectious.

I also have some guilty pleasure songs I dance to- songs I’m afraid to admit to people I listen to, love and get my groove on to them.

MC Hammer’s “U can’t touch this”
also the first song on the tape, can’t recall what it’s called. This is the first tape I ever bought- I believe I was in second grade.
Spice girls- “Wannabe”, “The lady is a vamp” and “Spice up your life”
Anything by Aqua- this includes “My oh my”, “Candy man”, “Dr. Jones” and even “Barbie girl”. Incidentally this it the last tape I ever bought, before switching to CDs.

One for the Aussies:

Keep the Customer Satisfied - Simon and Garfunkle
Tsunami - Prozzak
Along Comes Mary - (??Association??)
