What songs FORCE you to dance to them?

A few that haven’t been mentioned( I think)

“Black Velvet” by Alannah Myles
“I Feel Good” by James Brown
“Mony, Mony” by Billy Idol
“Stayin’ Alive” by The BeeGees
“I Love Rock & Roll” by Joan Jett (NOT the wimpy version by B. Spears!)

Are there so few slow dancers here? Let’s try these two later in the evening.

“Take It To The Limit” by The Eagles
“In The Still Of The Night” by The Five Satins

Old Motown stuff, and most stuff with Bootsy or George Clinton.

I forgot two other ones that serously make me shake my, er, assets:

“Center field” (also known as the baseball song, played a lot near opening day- I love baseball!!)

And, strange as it seems, “The William Tell overture”. In case you don’t know, this is the song often associated with horse racing. I once took my dad’s old record of it, and recorded it at normal speed onto a tape so I could dance alone to it in my room. Then I recorded it again at 45 RPM so I coud dance even faster.

Merla

Every time…no matter where I am…

“…here in my car, i feel safest of all…”

(insert wdcsmwscaa grooving and shaking what really shouldn’t be grooved and shook.)

Good lord. All it takes is some music and I’ll start dancing (just ask any doper whose met me  )

So let’s go with some weird stuff:
Dead Can Dance - most of their stuff but the weird one is “I am Stretched On Your Grave”

Beatles (again, most of their stuff) Helter Skelter
Squirrel Nut Zipper - Hell, also Blue Angel
Santana - Put Your Lights On
Queen - Get Down, Make Love
Led Zeppelin - Kashmir (8+ minutes at that!)
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Otherside
Billy Joel - An Innocent Man
Robert Palmer - Some Like It Hot
Aerosmith - Rag Doll (I think that’s actually a 40s big band song - does anyone know about that?)
Kate Bush - Waking the Witch
INXS - Listen Like Thieves
Butthole Surfers - Pepper

These don’t even count the belly dance music, or the dance music.

And I want to pairs dance to Miracles by Jefferson Starship, and waltz to Rainbow Connection by Kermit.

I have eclectic taste, don’t I?

Oops, I forgot the really strange one…

The theme from Quantum Leap always got me off the couch and dancing!

Yes!! That was originally on my list, but I removed because I thought no one would know it! Is that who does that song? I always dance to it, but never know the words. I think it’s “Rag doll, living in the movies”.
I also slowdance to the Rainbow Connection.
And, the theme from Remington Steele always gets me up and jumping around with some wild hand movements.
I have a whole 'nother list of Broadway tunes that get me moving.

Merla

I love Witches Dance by Wumpscut! I always listen to it when I am working on Excel - I have no idea why, but it makes me feel that I am working faster…

Ok, here is my list:

Fine Time - New Order
Brickhouse - kinda my “theme” song
Tighten Up - Archie Bell & the Drells
Electricity - OMD
Shout it Out Loud - KISS
Kings of the Wild Frontier - Adam Ant (just about any of his songs)
I Like It Like That - Tito Puente
I Feel Good - James Brown
Nasty Girl - Vanity 6
Instanbul - They Might Be Giants
Jump Around - House of Pain
1 2 3 4 - Coolio
It Takes Two - Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock
Family Affair - Mary J. Blige
The Only Way is Up - Yaz

Really, just about anything 80’s/NewWave will set me off in the living room, much to the consternation of my husband, as I am a horrible dancer.

Lyrics to Rag Doll

You should see the video. Steve Tyler doing scat at the end of the song is a sight to behold.

That would be The Surfaris…

Heh. I was going to ask if you were a friend of mine, whose stage name is Mischa. However, since she’s a very talented belly dancer and her husband would not mind her dancing at all, I would say this answers my question.

Nope, not a belly dancing Mischa.

I love most of the stuff on your list! I love the Squirrel Nut Zippers, etc. Small world as I am in Keller, also with a very ecletic CD collection

I, to the horror of many who know me, tend to dance whenever I hear music…and that includes the music in my head. I get some weird looks grooving to inaudible beats.

But I MUST dance to anything by John Melencamp, Michael Jackson or Cat Stevens. And the Chicken Dance (my friend’s version titled the Canadian Moose Dance).

Merla- I thought I was the only 18 year old with that taste in music! Nice to know I’m not the only one!

I live in Bedford! You must come to a dopefest, or at least we should get together and compare album collections.

Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger by Daft Punk. One of the only songs in the world that I cannot not dance to. Also on the list are ‘What would Brian Boytono do?’ (sp?) from the South Park movie, ‘I See Red’ and ‘History Never Repeats’ by Split Enz.

Interestingly last night a dozen of us grooved along to ‘Nations of the World’, the Animaniacs song. Oh dear…

Well, have a blast but don’t forget to study…or those great college days won’t last very long! Best of luck to ya!

mmm…

I forgot a MAJOR list of songs that make me dance in all ways to them- slow dance, choreographed movement, whatever. I just have to move to them.
I’m a big movie buff. Just take a look at these and you’ll see. And I swear to you that I must dance to every single one. Not all at once, of course

James Bond theme
“A view to a kill”
“License to kill”
“OHMSS”
“Nobody does it better”
“The living daylights”
“Tomorrow never dies”
“Goldeneye”
“Live and let die”

From the musicals:

“Fit as a fiddle (and ready for love)” (Massive dance moves here)
“Make 'em laugh”
“Moses supposes”
“Good mornin’”
“Singin’ in the rain”

Grand Hotel overture
“Maybe my baby loves me”

“I can see it”
“Rape ballet”
“Abductions”

“The rain in Spain”
“I could have danced all night”
“You did it!”
“Show me”
“On the street where you live”

Whew! So what kinds of movie themes make people dance to them?
