Everyone has these songs… when you listen to them you get the tingles down your back… like stroke 9 after september 11th happened and they changed the lyrics to their song “kick some ass”
Or other songs like pachelbel canon in D that you listen to, feel good, then walk away wanting to do something good.
On a side note I was surprised to hear a song by Brad Paisley and William Shatner or all people called “Real” although it has a few corny lines, it’s pretty damn inspirational.
What songs inspire you? Fast or slow? give you that unexplainable feeling deep down that cannot be described with words?
I always found Led Zeppelin’s “Fool in the Rain” to be a great song to try on dresses to.
I was going to use the “embarrassed” smilie, but since it really does look like it’s giving a blowjob, I figure to put it in a “guy trying on dresses” post just isn’t a good idea.
If I am finding it impossible to focus on work, I find the right tracks from the soundtrack to A Beautiful Mind always puts me in the right mindset. I sat in the theater with tears running down my face during the “Creating General Dyanmics” sequence, and “Playing a game of Go!”, “Cracking the Russian Codes,” and “Kaleidescope of Mathematics” are the same good stuff.
When I’m running . . . okay, this is embarassing . . . but the most motivational tracks in my workout mix are from the Mortal Kombat soundtrack. “Techno Syndrome” by The Immortals (has the roll call) and “Theme from Mortal Kombat” by the Utah Saints, which has all the goofy sound clips from the movie. “‘I am the Chosen One.’ ‘All right.’”
I’m still really into “Take Me Out” by Franz Ferdinand. I heard it on the radio in my car and had that “God-DAY-um!! That’s a great song!” feeling with the chills down the back that you describe. I hadn’t heard it in a while, so I had the same feeling as the first time I heard it.
When I really need to focus on something I put on Nine Inch Nails’ Pretty Hate Machine as loud as I can stand it. The sound feels viscous somehow, making it impossible for any distractions to get in.
“Miserlou” by Dick Dale and the Del-Tones
“Lust For Life” by Iggy Pop
“You Got the Touch” and “Dare” by Stan Bush
“The Final Countdown” by Europe
Anything by the Raveonettes
“Bat Out of Hell” by Meat Loaf
Any fast Ben Folds song
“Common People” by William Shatner and Joe Jackson
Danny Elfman’s Spider-Man opening and closing title themes
Most stuff by Brian Setzer Orchestra, Royal Crown Revue, and Less Than Jake
Well, we’re both right. Folds produced it, but Joe Jackson is the other voice who sang with Shatner on “Common People.” Even though Folds was the genius behind Shatner’s excellent album Has Been, I was just crediting the performers.
Well, I stand counter-corrected. I have only heard the song once (and on a station with horrible reception), but since I knew of Ben Folds’ participation on the album, I thought it might have been him.
If You Want Blood by AC/DC off their Highway to Hell album. Og, do they know how to build up an intro, stretch it out and then deliver a churning rhythm.
I listened to this song before every test I had to take in college and grad school to get pumped up.
side note: I was watching “Empire Records” - an only-okay movie about an indie record shop that sports a when-they-were-young cast like Renee Zellweger, Liv Tyler, Robin Tunney and a bunch of others. Anthony LaPaglia of the TV show “Without a Trace” plays the store owner, and at one point, goes back into his office to be alone and clear his head. He goes over to the drum set he keeps in there and fires up…you guessed it, my song. You couldn’t find a better illustration for why I use that song the way I do if you tried…
