What sort of lunch should I surprise a girl with?

Can you call the office & ask the advice of a woman there? Your gal will be very happy when the office is abuzz about what a great guy she found because they’ll all know how freakin’ thoughtful & sweet you are.

What a nice romantic idea!! Forget it. There is a 92% probability that you, as a male, cannot prepare any food that will meet her expectations (probablilty + or - 8%, 19 times out of 20). Offer to take her some place, have some ideas in mind if she hesistates, pay the bill and TIP BIG.

Cucumber & brie bagette.

Guys! It is just a lunch. The worse than could happen is that she doesn’t like it. However, if you do it right, the gesture itself will be more appreciated than the actual meal. IF not, she’s not worth it.

I’d bring a picnic. Nice bakery bread, some cheese, some veggies and fruit, maybe something from the deli–like meats or a salad, a thermos of soup. If she has to work after lunch, grab a bottle of sparkling cider and if she doesn’t get some wine. You can put it in a wicker basket or a small metal tub. Cover with a blanket or a remnent of fabric and then you can take your picnic anywhere–on her desk, to a park if it’s warm, to a lounge in her office. Just remember to pack silverware, two wine glasses, and a small knife for cutting bread and cheese.

I think that I can tell who is male and who is female in this thread.

The meal will likely be eaten in her office. I think that I will bring minestrone soup, some fresh french bread, some fruit and home-made rice pudding for desert. Also, I will go down to pier-one and see if I can find a nice wicker basket (that is all Pier one is good for, they should rename it the wicker, wax, and brass store) to present it in, after all, presentation is 90% of the meal.
I will bring coffee and milk to drink, because she is at work.
Do you guys think that I should bring anything else? Some cheese? What kind? Or do I have enough?

Something chocolate … even if it’s just a small piece of something expensive.

I’d vote for the cheese and crackers bit. Wonderful idea. It gives you time to chat and it gives variation with some different kinds of cheese.

Hmmm… I might steal this idea, if you don’t mind.

Minestrone soup, fresh crusty bread, fruit, very good. Home-made rice pudding, PERFECT. Coffee and milk…hmmmm, I’d go with sparkling cider, because I think that it would go better with that meal, unless she drinks coffee with EVERYTHING.

As for cheese, I’d certainly enjoy some nice sharp Cheddar with that meal. However, my tastes in cheese don’t always coincide with the popular opinion. For instance, I think that Cheddar on pizza or with corned beef is an abomination. So you might ask someone else about cheese. I don’t think that this meal actually needs cheese, though.

And you just can’t go wrong with chocolate. Godiva sells chocolate topped “biscuits” in four-packs, which would be just about right for a dessert for two.

Coldfire, summer sausage isn’t as bad as you might think. http://www.dianaskitchen.com/page/favorite/super.htm . It’s just ground beef and spices, dried or smoked, which can be kept without refrigeration. http://eat.epicurious.com/dictionary/food/index.ssf?DEF_ID=4111

A fish supper would certainly give her a bit of a shock, especially if you weren’t intimately acquainted.

I just wanted to report that operation “ply cute girl with foodstufs” was a succes, we will be seeing “From Cradle to Grave” at a future date.

Thank you for your help.

Next lunch, Dine at the Y.

It’s very fulfilling.

Don’t you mean freedom bread?
