What sort of lunch should I surprise a girl with?

Tomorow I am going to surprise a girl I like with lunch and coffee, but I am not sure what to get and/or make for her. Grabing some fast food does not seem like a very good idea. Was thinking of making soup, or of bringing a large assortment of cheese, meat and crackers.

Any neat lunch ideas? What would you like to be surprised with?

dude… the soup idea is so wonderful. especially if it’s homemade.

totally cool. have fun

You want to suprise a girl with a little “lunch meat,” do you? Do you really need any more suggestions?

You’d better make sure she doesn’t have any wacky dietary requirements. I can just see you bringing in a three foot summer sausage and wheel of gouda and it turns out she’s vegan.

Probably not a tossed lunch.

Surprise!

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. It’s more common, now, than it used to be. My feeling is, if you don’t know her tastes well enough to have a good idea of what she’d like, maybe the time is not right to be springing this surprise. If you do know what she likes, why ask us?

 I’m not even going to ask what the fuck that is. Ignorance is bliss!

What about sushi? It’s sophisticated, yummy, and healthy. You might want to check if she’s into fish, though. More women than men seem to dislike fish, for some reason.

Is this a friendly thing, or are you picturing this girl somehwhere else than a dinner table anytime soon? And if you still picture her at a dinner table anytime soon, will you guys still be just eating?

May I be the first to point out that it’s not nice to call vegans “wacky”?

Cream pie to the face! Cream pie to the face!

It satisfies 3 Key requirements:

  1. It WILL BE a Surprise
    2)When come, bring pie!
    3)Hi, Opal!

Hopefully she is nothing like me, because I can’t imagine anyone who doesn’t know me extremely well being able to bring me a lunch that I’d actually want to eat. In between what I can’t eat, what I won’t eat, and what I don’t like, I think I’d qualify for that ‘wacky dietary requirements’ thing pretty quick.

If you wanna take her out, I’d suggest showing up at lunchtime with your car keys and saying “lunch is on me, we can go where-ever you like.” Or calling her and asking if you can pick up something.

Good call, jinwicked. I went out a few times with a vegetarian (I’m a dedicated omnivore), and I learned quickly to just let her pick a place, as I have no idea what restaurants served meals that would fit her regimen.

Pal, in my humble opinion, anyone who doesn’t like cheese is wacky. Not bad, not good…but wacky. Cheese is the stuff of gods.

Notice he didn’t stipulate a “pleasant surprise” in the thread title or OP. Ham hocks and deep friend cow brains for all!

Muad’Dib,

I’m voting for your plan to bring a bunch of frou-frou meats and cheeses. Add to that some fresh bread and your getting better. If you really want some magic make a tortilla española and bring a bottle of wine. Head out to the park for a picinic and take the afternoon off (this may require more than one bottle of vino).

I’d like it noted, for the record, that I did not make the “hide the salami” joke.

If you really want to surprise her, hide in the bushes and throw it at her, piece by piece. Or you could tell her you’re actually a large bird and then regurgitate for her. Either of those will be quite surprising, I’m sure.

Well Muad’Dib if it is warm in your part of California then something that can be eaten outside on a park bench or on a grass verge can be most romantic, bring a picknic blanket if you have one.
For what to bring it depends a great deal on what the lady likes to eat, and what you like as well. Sushi is great, but only if she likes sushi! Also consider whether wine might be appropriate (probably not if you are both working after lunch). If you know nothing about what she likes to eat, then good crusty bread with a selection of cheeses, meat, vegetarian tapanade, followed by fruit salad is most likely to have something she will like. Allow your creativity to show in the choice of food you bring, but try to avoid looking like you are trying to show off too much. So choose the best tasting ideas, over the posh/trendy ideas that you have.
Good luck, Bippy

“Here’s your halibut omelet. Surprised?”

Give her a foot-long “hot dog”.

Giraffe, that’s awful… and hilarious

Muad’Dib, how about some fresh crusty bread rolls, with a pre-made salad, a small selection of lunch meats, some cheese and a few condiments. Grab a picnic blanket, too. I love picnics

Wait a minute, it’s winter over there, isn’t it ? Ummm, save that idea for later. Soup sounds good, with fresh bread. The smell of fresh bread is so yummy.

Whatever you choose, it’s a brilliant idea, much better to bring something (shows much more thought) than to just take her ‘out’ to eat IMO

My favorite is a fine cheese with fresh baked bread, butter and fruit. Get a couple of Godiva truffles for dessert. Play a little Edith Pilaf or Marlene Dietrich in the background.
