What sort of person buys jewelry by the pound?

Anyone who is bored, recuperating and has access to E-Bay or more specifically people like me.

For over a month I’ve been coping with some unknown respiratory disorder that is just not responding to treatment. For lack of anything better the doctors are calling it Acute Ideopathic Reactive Airway disease. Basically like asthma. I am literally too short of breath to do much more that sit at the computer and take naps.

Cruising along in E-bay yesterday I came across ads for “estate Lots” with descriptions like “20 pounds of costume jewelry” “big ol box of stuff I found in an attic”, I was intrigued. It’s just like a garage sale without the hassle. I find myself thinking, well just one sterling bracelet would cost me 10 bucks, and if I buy these 60 pairs of ear rings for $5 and even one pair is nice then… and you know I can always use the spare pieces to repair other things.

Now I sit here giddy as a school girl awaiting the arrival of my jewelery by the pound. I’m out about $20 but I’m not bored any more.

Has anyone here ever bought lots like these? What was your best deal/bargain or find?

Mr. T?

My girlfriend is damn near obsessed with buying in lots on eBay - mostly clothes. She’s most proud of her lot of 60 “scrunchies” she bought for well under $10.

Oh, and adam yax, good answer! It got a good laugh out of me.

Mermaid Please let us know what kind of stuff you get. I’d probably be afraid to do it myself.

Ok I got my “bracelets” shipment Monday. I paid $9.99 for 20 braclets. There are a few silver bangle & link types and all are need of a good cleaning but there were 3 that I considered real finds so I took them to my local jeweler.

  1. An 8 inch yellow gold, link bracelet weighing 7 grams.

  2. An 8 inch chunky curb link weighing 20 grams.(arm sling not included) The bracelet is solid 14k but the clasp needs replaced.

  3. A 7 1/2 inch white/yel gold tennis style bracelet. It is made of 5 solid bars that are each channel set with 3 10 point diamonds, two of which are missing (total 1.3 carat weight) and the bars are joined in a sort of figaro style link. It has a very fancy and ornate box clasp and weighs 18 grams. In its current condition it’s worth about $300-350. It will cost $75-100 to replace the diamonds. I was told it would cost about $450 to purchase new.

Not bad huh? I’m sure not everyone has such a happy story to tell but at least this worked out ok. Now I’m waiting for my ear rings. Maybe today. . . . . .

Aww, shucks, you beat me to it…
