What soymilk do you drink?

I’ve had my share of Edensoy, and the other varieties that come in the unrefrigerated rectangular boxes, but I never really purchased any myself other than extremely rare occasions. I spent a good 20 years drinking 2-3 big glasses of cow’s milk a day.

Then I encountered a jug of 8th Continent a couple of years ago, and I’ve never looked back. I really don’t drink regular milk anymore, at all. I f*cking love 8th Continent. Original/Regular is what I buy all the time, but the Chocolate is divine as well.

It has much less of the obvious soy flavor. It tastes closer to what regular milk tastes like than other soymilks, without the negative aspects of regular milk. Like the way regular milk tastes bitter/nasty first thing in the morning. I can chug right from a jug of 8th Continent, no matter what time of the day or night.

So what soymilk do you drink?

I switched to soy from 2% cow milk over the summer so my mooch brother wouldn’t drink my stuff. It was a little weird at first, but now I can’t see going back. My current fav is Light Vanilla Silk. I love how soy milk feels in same diet or not. Skim cow milk feels too watery to me to drink on a daily basis.

I can’t bring myself to buy the unrefrigerated stuff. I know it tastes to same after its’ been cooled and there’s no health risk, but it still skeevs me out.

I’m a Silk guy. Regular flavor, not vanilla or anything. 8th Continent is also fine, but I don’t think the nearest store has it.

Oh, I’m with you. The unrefrigerated stuff is gross and…skeevy.

I drink Silk…unsweetended.

Not sure if this really counts as “soy milk”, but the Bolthouse Farms Vanilla Chai protien drink is the best soy-based drink I’ve ever had. There is honestly no soy-like taste at all. The flavor is like a cross between eggnog and an oatmeal cookie. Not sure how it compares with other soy drinks in terms of sugar content; it might be higher than others but I certainly haven’t gained any weight since I started drinking it on a daily basis. I’ve also tried the Naked soy drink in Chocolate but it had a definite beany aftertaste that got stronger with every sip. It wasn’t terrible, but the Bolthouse Farms stuff is perfection in comparison.
Again, sorry if this was not what you were asking about, **honeydewgirl.

You can make your own. quick link Just put in water and soy beans in the maker and out comes fresh soy milk.

WestSoy Nonfat Vanilla, for me. I drink the boxed stuff because when I was still living in boonieville backwoods nowhereland, all we could get was the boxed stuff, and I am lactose intolerant and had to make do with what we had.

However, I have seen the refridgerated stuff at my local grocery store here in Seattle. Maybe I’ll give that 8th Continent jazz a try. This is Ballard, they probably sell it at gas stations. :stuck_out_tongue:

I like Chocolate Silk as much as I like chocolate milk. I find the soy taste in Silk mixes with the chocolate taste and… bam! Drinkable cake batter!

I drink Silk…but I’m not at the point where I can pour it in a glass and drink it. I put it in my coffee and have it on cereal. Starbucks uses Silk, too, so I get soy lattes there.

Oh…and yesterday I made vegan pumpkin pancakes by using Silk.

Quick question. Why is something that comes from a bean called milk? Is it to make it more culturaly acceptable?

I have nothing against vegetarians or their “milk”, I just wonder why they would call a soy product milk.

Ditto. Love that stuff. I have tried and tried, but I just can’t drink any cow’s milk less than 2%. I started drinking regular soy milk (Silk) because it’s lower in saturated fat than 2%, but it still has a similar amount of total fat. When they came out with Light, I jumped all over it. I like how it’s lower in fat, naturally, but I also like the less rich taste. I find soy milk much more refreshing and pleasant to drink than cow’s milk, actually, and Silk Light doubly so.

[p]calm kiwi**, I don’t think it has much to do with cultural acceptance, since there’s also coconut milk, and milk of magnesia. I think milk is just a generic term applied to white- or cream-colored opaque potables.

My favorite is a sweetened soy milk I get from Asian markets. I don’t remember the name, but it comes in a plastic milk bottle with a red cap and label and can be found in any Asian market. Overall, I just don’t like any of the American soy milk brands and prefer the Asian varieties.

This goes back for many centuries. For example here’s a recipe for nut milk:

Grr…I was trying to bold the word “milke” to show you that it’s not a neologism.

At any rate, soy milk, almond milk, etc. are white (or whitish) opaque creamy liquids that are somewhat sweet and not salty, with a high protein content. Calling them “milk” makes more sense than talking about how a Twinkie has a “cream filling.”

I remember now the brand name, it’s called “Yeo’s”.

Hee. 8th Continent’s good stuff, but the stuff to the left in the blue plastic 1gal carton is like drinking heavy cream straight. Oh my. (assuming you hit Ballard Market, that is) I’ll have to recheck the name on the carton in my fridge when I get home.

After trying those brands, Soy Dream and so forth are rather disappointing and have a distinct cardboard flavour, I’m thinking.

Silk chocolate
Master’s Choice vanilla

I love the Trader Joe’s boxed stuff. They even have small 8oz boxes that you can just toss in with your lunch and run. I like the vanilla, chocolate, and the mocha is to die for. Oddly enough, I haven’t tried the regular! Seriously, the shelf-stable stuff is awesome. I love to stock up and am never out of soy milk. I store it in the fridge so it’s always cold when I need it. Nothing worse than having cereal and no milk!

I also like the Silk extra vanilla. My 10 year-old nephew is allergic to milk, and he knows that I don’t do well on milk either. He took me aside one day and told me very seriously that I absolutely had to try the silk extra vanilla. He said, “You’re going to taste it and you’re going to say, ‘Wow! That’s really vanilla-y!’” And it is! In a good way! It’s really excellent with cereal, especially the Trader Joe’s Cinnamon-Frosted Shreded Wheat Squares. Can you tell I have a bit of a sweet tooth?

Silk Blue and Silk Green are the only ones I really go for. I love 'em.
