What Swag Do You Get From Work?

At the moment- not a whole lot. It’s holiday time so all our suppliers are making the round with little things- office supplies and chocolate but that’s about it.

I temped at Telemundo for 2 months and came home with all sorts of stuff though. Coffee mugs, notebooks, pens, ribbon, bags, mints, a fleece blanket, and my fave- a fleecy/down jacket from the upfronts. I also got to go to a few Spurs games as my boss got season tix and there were some games that no client wanted to go. I miss that job.

Free food (snacks) and drinks, plus my employer has arranged free or discounted admission for staff at a number of London musems. The company sometimes co-sponsors major art exhibitions, and when it does we get a free preview night to ourselves. Not so much crap imprinted with the company name for a while, but that’s fine with me, most of it being crap.

Having said that, I’m most appreciative of the fact that I can read *Grant’s Interest Rate Observer * for free through my employer, something that would cost me the better part of $1,000 a year otherwise.

The companies on which my team at work reports include Unilever and Cadbury Schweppes, and those two usually put together impressive goodie bags for the reporters attending the press conferences for their half-year and annual results.

I’d just like to say that I’m thoroughly envious of many of you.

I get lots of samples from vendors, like full-sized tubes of acrylic paints, brushes, pens, pencils, sketchbooks, and inks, just to name a few.

My brother works at a gaming store and I guess his store was something like the only one of its chain in the province to sell the most copies of Halo 2 within the first day that it came out. Microsoft gave them a thank you party consisting of food and “collector’s edition” copies of Halo 2 for each employee! Lucky buggers!

We get lots of stuff. The most unusual one in a while has to be the blue berets we got when we launched the localized French site.

Hats, shirts, pens, knives, koozies, golf balls, etc., with company logo

Also above stuff from vendors, add free lunches

Also above from customers, add free dinners

but the best is the free golf !

I’m in Myrtle Beach area of SC, a golf MECCA, and since everyone wants to play when they come here, I get to as well. It helps that no one else at the company plays but the prez, and he’s usually busy. I also get to play in the Industry & local government tourneys when they come around too. Works out to about 10-12 rounds a year altogether.

I’ve been here 7 years and have NEVER bought golf balls - each person starts each round with a fresh box of 12 or so from the pro shop. I get all the leftovers.
