Better read Sports Illustrated. They’re not making as much as in the NHL, but not far from it, and certainly more than some former teammates are sharpening skates at the neighborhood rink. Working conditions are a little weird, though.
I flipped through the story. I get the impression that they don’t really like it there. But IMO, rich young athletes don’t tend to ‘travel’ well.
As far as what a lot of players are making during the strike - this may be a blessing in disguise for them. Now lots of players can see that it might not be a bad idea to have a fall back position if their career ends early because of injury or whatever. You have to pump lots of gas to make even the NHL minimum.
Maybe, the Senators pasted us pretty good in '97 and we’d like to ponder the matter some more.
However, if someone promises to cover at least half the bar tab, we’re so there.
