As for the OP and some follow-up comments…
I occasionally find the “It’s been done before” posts a little dismissive, myself. The phrase is neutral on the face of it, but I think it’s been used at times to be condescending. It’s potentially inflammatory, so I’d advise people to use a kinder wording if they want to post a quick link to a previous similar thread. In other words, I agree with your sentiment.
However, I don’t think it’s consistent for you to then turn around and say that the eye-rolling smiley isn’t taking the disagreement up a notch. Eye-rolling is insulting where I come from. Even if it wasn’t, it’s not fair, IMHO, to say you have the right to interpet Coldfire’s posts as mean-spirited, whereas everyone else should interpret your posts and smileys in a positive light, and as nothing more than calm and rational. Ambiguity goes both ways.

Well I made two quotes. The first person gave me permission–or more accurately suggested that I post it, in fact even told me which one of their many insults they wanted me to post. The other was posted publicly to begin with, it wasn’t in private mail or IM.
If you don’t CARE what other people think about this and didn’t want to lend credence to your opinion, then why bother saying that people on IM or e-mail support you?
Also, I don’t see how he’s being dismissive. All he said was that a thread existed on the topic. He didn’t even say that your thread was inappropriate. You seem to be the one overreacting here, not Coldfire.

It seemed to me that you were using the e-mail (and IMs) of support to lend weight to the idea that you weren’t the only person who thought Coldfire was a jerk and imply that it was a widely held position. If that wasn’t your motive, I don’t understand why you’d reprint their mewlings. If it was, it had the opposite effect on me, for whatever that’s worth.
