What the fuck crawled up Coldfire's ass and died?

Question for clarification:

Did said person give you permission- in fact, suggestion- to use said insult in your post, but withheld permission to actually use their name; or did said person give you permission to use their name but you felt it unnecessary?

If the latter, fine; if the former, I’m amazed at the level of cowardice that shows.

[sub](And I ain’t closin’ this thread for you, either, Coldie. :))[/sub]

I was going to come post, but I see PLG has said it all for me. :)

Maybe it’s just me, but I read “it’s been done before” = “Jeez, our bandwidth sucks and let’s try to keep it current.”

Then again, I don’t post the “-gry” question for the four-billionth time.

Opal, we’ve never interacted, but do you have to have a special bicycle seat to deal with the stick up your ass?

Didn’t the last person who alluded to someone being a Nazi get banned (DITWD)? Surely there is some precedent here…or am I wrong?

Coldie must have one hell of a cute ass for so many people to be obsessed about what’s up it.

And it isn’t a hamster, it isn’t an inflatable pig, it isn’t even a goat. bj0rn revealed the secret here.

Besides, having things up one’s ass is unnatural, so this collective obsession about what’s in Coldie’s ass is only encouraging more depravity.

And I thought we were here to fight ignorance…

I travelled to Amsterdam this spring, and Coldy was nice enough to put me up. What he dosen’t know is that after he went to sleep, I prowled around his place. The following is a partial list of what I found:

Swastika Underoos™
The shoes in the closet were tied in little Nazis.
Extensive encoded files on his 'puter in a folder called “4th Reich”.
Porn featuring Hitler look-alikes masterbating on apple pie, mom and the American flag
A shrine to Herman Goering, hidden in his closet behind an inflatable sex pig.
Messerschmidt jello molds
and…
A t-shirt that said “My parents invaded France, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt”.

You may draw your own conclusions.

Ditto Anthracite and Falcon on dittoing Peppy.

Opal - I’m going to make the same suggestion to you now that I made to Satan upon his banning - take break, a step back, and a deeeeeep breath. Some time away from the board will probably do you good.

Frankly, I’m tired of your martyr act, but, on the other hand, I don’t think it’s an act, per se.

It’s not accurate, but I’m sure you think it is. Take a break, get some perspective, and remember that not everything revolves around you, and you’ll probably feel much better.

Oh for fuck’s sake. This whole thing has just gone too fucking far.

Look, here’s the scoop.

Coldfire said: It’s been done before

Opalcat rolled her eyes at him (in my dictionary of emoticons – okay it’s my mind, this can simply mean – whatever.)

Coldfire told her to switch to decaf

Opalcat felt that his words to this point were dismissive, oh and she doesn’t drink caffienated drinks

And excuse me here, I dig both of them but Coldy’s response of:

Was out of line and I am NOT afraid to say this and have had no prior contact with Opal or Coldy about this. I am no longer an active member of Opal’s board and I rarely communicate on any level with Coldy but this comment was telling me “look at me, I am the big bad mod, got a problem with that? Take it to the Pit. Nanny Nanny Boo Boo.”

First off, Opal may have seen more to the words that were there, no biggy, we get on with it. A simple roll of the eyes should not be considered “going against a mod” Geez, as far as I know it’s still within “SDMB regulations” to use the emoticon. If it’s that offensive than take the 15x15 pixel driven picture off the boards.

I didn’t see where Opal was complaining about the SDMB or the mod in question, she rolled her eyes at a comment made by a poster/moderator here. She made it clear his comment didn’t go over well but without bad intent. She didn’t attack him, she didn’t even suggest she was pissed off in that thread.

It was not until Coldfire came out with that last comment that made it very clear that he would rather use his moderator ability to say “no bickering outside, blah, blah, blah…

Were either of them right? Um that’s up to interpretation, but Coldfire “invited” her to take it to the Pit with his comment. She obliged and now everyone is backing up Coldy, in my eyes without looking at her side one iota.

The problem I see here is a complete ideal that mods here are always mods, but only when it’s convenient.

Look, if you are acting as a mod, let your members know. At this point there is no disruption and people know that it was you as a mod not you acting as a member. In addition to that, if you say something and someone disagrees and you didn’t say it in moderator capacity, eat it, deal with it, and act like a member but don’t “threaten” people because you got a sore spot from sitting on the saddle too long.

This is one reason I have been falling out of message boards and doing my own thing. It’s amazing what you can accomplish when not glued to the keyboard all the time.

I need to add to my post…

If Coldy is that good of a moderator, he should be able to use his moderator abilities to smooth the shit before it happens rather than suggest a member take it to the Pit when it hadn’t even gone to that level. If he had felt she was “attacking” him in an MPSIMS thread, he might have tried an email first rather than inviting the attack.

Bandwagon 71024 departing for another circuitous trip to: Conclusionvile, Assumptionberg, Topeka and Followerton!

Alllllllll aboooooarrrrrrrd!!!

Two disagreements Techchick.

First, Opal didn’t just roll her eyes, she said:

Which, to me, does give the tone of bad intent. It’s certainly more than a simple “whatever”. I found it pretty sarcastic, frankly.

Second, I belive (and could a mod correct me if I’m wrong) that posting prior links is part and parcel of a mod’s job. IF it is, then Opal was criticizing a mod in the performance of their duty (so to speak). And as everyone who’s been here for more than 15 minutes knows, criticisms of mods go in the pit (which I think is a mistake…but…)

**

I do agree with this part. I think that David B.'s <mod hat ON> thing would’ve alleviated much of the current situation and I’d suggest that something to that effect be more commonly and universally used.

Fenris

Wait a tick!

I thought this thing was headed for Locksley. Oh shit, that’s right! Nevermind!

zzzzzzzzzz

Well, honestly, when Coldy posted that, it was the first time I had ever heard it to be a “moderator’s duty”, seriously.

I have seen members do it and I have done it (reminding people of prior threads of the same nature), but never knew it was an explicit “moderator duty” to inform that that subject has been covered. This attempt at showing another member that the subject of the thread has been covered seems a universal decision amongst all the SDMB and not a strict “moderator duty”. If it is, then many of us are in violation of reminding people it’s been covered and use the search function.

With that in mind, given the fact I have never known it to be a “moderator duty” I think that Opalcat was in the right given the interpretation she had. If it’s unwritten, so be it but it’s never been an issue until that that thread that I know of, in which Coldy was short (as I have done) but followed up with a very “official response” forgetting that his words may have come off as kurt (sp) and not really explaining why he posted what he did. He put her on the defensive with his response to her response.

Coldy is an excellent poster, I have nothing against him, but I sometimes question his moderating abilities. I can say that as a former mod and as a member of this and several boards. I like his “member” posts but his moderating posts seem to go over the top. He can be very brash, harsh and rude without realizing it – not good in my eyes.

That’s his style? Okay I am cool with that but IMHO he needs to lighten up his style as a mod and remember where the Mod ends and the Member begins. I would have said something before but this one just stuck out at me because I felt he was egging Opalcat on with that quote. Again I felt he was pulling the “I’m the big bad mod…” If he hadn’t said that I am sure many people would have just let it be and continued on with the discussion at hand and a Pit thread would not have ensued.

Can I just say that Coldy and the Nazi Ass Hampsters would be a great name for a band?

That’s so bad that it’s funny (even if it is an old joke).

Silly, “hamsters” isn’t spelled with a “p”!

So…what, would people be happy if Coldfire did what many of the others do and insert a
[Moderator Hat On/Off] when he is speaking officially? Would that help?

In coldy’s case it would have to be [Moderator Armband On/Off]

I just tried re-writing the whole OP substituting “Opal” for “Coldie” and “she” for “he” and tried to imagine what response a similar OP made at FFF would have drawn.

Someone is eventually going to say this, so it might as well be me.

Una has the right to set the rules for the Unaboard, Demo has the right to set them for Roundtable, Opal has the right to set them for 3F, and the admins here have the right to set them for SDMB.

It is not appropriate for posters on any of the abovementioned messageboards to flaunt the established conventions for addressing concerns about decisions made simply because they happen to be an admins/mods on another message board.

How Una or Demo or Opal choose to run their own message boards and what is the appropriate way to query mod/admin decisions on those boards simply isn’t relevant here.

Anyone who’s been here more than six months knows the appropriate way to have your legitimate concerns acknowledged and addressed. Anyone who has been here more than six months and chooses other means of showcasing their personal problems with “the rules” is not only failing to fight ignorance, they are personifying it.
