So the weight of public opinion is clearly in MY favor, not yours.

Twisty, that gave me my first laugh of this entire sorry-assed thread. Here, lemme yank on my hip-waders, I have something to add.
I’m going to do the unspeakable and agree PARTIALLY with something in the O.P. The idea that someone would post a similiarly themed thread is pretty much inevitable. Yeah, if I start a thread in G.Q. entitled, " What was the first episode of Star Trek to air on television?"- I would expect some medium-to-well-done ass flaming. A specific question with a single line answer that ( I assume ) has been done before. I chose that query out of thin air, I’ve no clue if it’s been asked and could give a rat’s ass what the answer is.
My point is that it’s kind of hard to slam any member for posting a thread of similar THEME, or a tangent of another thread- especially an old thread. I’m sorry, but while I surely try to live by the rules here and would do a search of some serious effort in the archives before posting a new thread somewhere, you have to believe that some people are going to post similiarly-themed threads without being malicious/irresponsible about it.
I’m not siding with either one of you, I’m just pointing out that eventually the same idea does float across the board. If it’s not a purely factual query, odds are it may become a wonderful layered thread in a way that the OLD thread of similar themes didn’t.
Isn’t that a good reason to allow people to post without exhausting every single possible connection to any thread ever posted on SDMB?

You obviously didn’t read my explanation very well, Cartooniverse. But to make it clear: the OP posting a thread that had already been done was not the problem. It was the subsequent bickering that didn’t belong in MPSIMS.
Are our rules that hard?
