That Panda don’t come cheap either: Enterprise is at least $103 a season.
Since the remastered version of TOS has to come out on DVD sometime, maybe Dad would prefer to wait? That should give you time to save up the $500 it’s liable to cost

And after they release the remastered version, they’ll release the special edition with the extra CGI scenes they shot but didn’t air on TV. Then after that, the collector’s edition with the little figurines of Spock, Kirk, and McCoy.
I can’t count the number of times the makers of the Lord of the Rings movie have gone to that particular well. It seems every time I go into a video store there’s another new extra-special, director’s cut, collector’s edition of a new Lord of the Rings DVD.
What the fuck is up with Star Trek?
The first season DVD set of the original series goes for $89 at the PX. My guess is that’s because of the silly overpackaging done for it. It’s a large, ugly plastic box that will no doubt be discarded after opening.
Maybe it’ll be like the seasons of the X-files. They were $100 apiece after they came out for a few years, then dropped to $45 about 6 months ago.
I wanted the entire series of Star Trek: TNG, but the last time I checked, the seasons were going for $120 a pop at Best Buy. Granted, that was three years ago, but since then, my interest has waned, and I haven’t really felt the need to get the show.
What ticks me off are the re-releases. I bought the entire Farscape series on DVD two years ago. Almost exactly when I’d finished the collection, they started the Starburst editions, which had more extras (including a bunch of new commentaries). If it hadn’t been for the new commentaries, I could’ve stuck with my original DVDs. But as this is my absolute favorite show ever, I went ahead and bought the series AGAIN as the discs were released. Luckily, they were a lot cheaper this time, and I did manage to sell my original DVDs to a friend, so I pretty much broke even, but even so, I was annoyed. (And I still have yet to get the last three in the re-release just because I haven’t had time to watch anything…).
E.
As of 3 weeks ago, Costco sells the plastic “lunchbox” sets of TOS for $45 each. Last year they were $80 each. So get to a Costco (unfortunately the online store doesn’t carry them) or wait another year for another price drop.
Yep, I discovered that as well, and also that OVerstock has then for 50 bucks, but they are running a “12% off for new customers” promotion right now if you also buy something non-media, which I will…
My issue? My demand is not $100 worth. It’s not like I’m campaigning to get the price of the DVD’s lowered, I’m just not buying them.
What on Earth is your issue?
[I don’t know if there really is a rule where we can’t link directly to internet superstores, but whatever.]
Right now you can get them from buy dot com, with google checkout, for about $33-35 US a season.
Unfortunately it looks like most of the the TNG seasons are out of stock.
You’d have to pay me at least triple that to watch a season of Enterprise.
IIRC, their was a super-limited-edition “Borg Cube” that contained every episode of every iteration of Star Trek, plus the movies. It was THOUSANDS, but it really was limited edition, maybe only five hundred were made. If anyone can find a link…
Why would one even bother? Even at the (assumed) maximum price of $100 a season and the ridiculous price of $30 a movie, the total price would be $2700, certainly less than “THOUSANDS.”
Wait, I forgot about “ENTERPRISE” and the animated episodes. Add another $350; even so…
More than one thousand = Thousands… Not sure why you’re pissing me off here.
Update: I bought Season 2 from Costco for 45 plus tax. Still pretty ludicrous.
