What the fuck is wrong with Tucker Carlson (this time)?

I watched my daughter’s first poo. She was calm and cute.

I missed my son’s one, it was at night. (i did the first nappy change, which is kind of special to me in a weird space that only parents could appreciate)

Tucker has this face that is continuously both bland and irritating. Like he could not understand WTF he is talking about, and only has the emotions anger and hatred. But his visage barely changes. I mean, if you are passionate about a subject, then show some passion, not anodyne TV face.

Whatever happens (in the past or the future), it’s Trudeau’s fault.

This entire pro-russia thing has been odd. Weren’t these the same guys warning us about the Red Scare and black listing (witch hunting) people they thought were communists?

I worry that some of this is the right trying to drum up just enough ‘cold war’ fear to run on a “The libs are trying to start WW3” platform, while hoping they don’t end up starting it themselves.

For people who don’t want WW3, they’re playing pretty fast and loose with the treaties that might actually prevent it.

“The past was alterable. The past never had been altered. Oceania was at war with Eastasia. Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia.”

― George Orwell, 1984

At the end of the day, Carlson is a guy from yuppie-town who was hired by CNN to portray strawman Republican arguments that they’d crafted to avoid any hard investigatory work. As it happens, he found fame and fortune in playing the strawman and, by this point in his life, that’s probably all that he knows how to do.

The moral of the fable would seem to be that the first piggie would have done just fine against nearly anything in his straw house. The grand majority of humanity have the lungs of an asthmatic shrew.

I can only speak to my own experiences, so I can’t say whether I’ve had bad luck or higher standards but every McDonald’s that I’ve been into has had trash on the floors, the majority of the tables and the floor were sticky, the counter was usually empty and I’d need to call for someone to come, and the people who showed up looked unhealthy and somewhere between disinterested and angry.

To be sure, everything was made of metal and hard plastic, so nothing was falling apart. Maybe others are associated “dump” with mold, wobbly chairs, etc. But I’m not sure that I’d say that because something is built to prison hardware standards and won’t decay anytime on geologic scales, that it should be considered a nice place to hang out. Maybe “dump” is the wrong word but I’m not sure what the right word is.

No, every fast food place I’ve ever been to, (including the two I worked at) were clean to almost OCD standards. At least McD’s franchises are subject to surprise inspections by McD’s corporate. Cleaning was almost sanitary. That was really one of McD’s original standards. clean fast food. Once in a while at off hours, you might have to stand a second until an associate (who is probably cleaning something) notices you. However, they usually say something like: “I’m sorry. How can I help you?” I’m not disputing your experience, but I am explaining mine. I’ve never experienced a fast food place that’s a “dump” in either definition you supplied. So I think your comparison to other countries is a way over generalization and a bit snooty.

tucker is an example of the things that are wrong with the US at this time. Hopefully his sort of bullshit will eventually become extinct…at least for a while. He also looks like an idiot. I’m sure he thinks that face is “thoughtful” and “interested”; he is wrong.

[Tangentially related; I’ll remove the post if it’s considered a hijack]

There’s an ex-pat Australian named Russell who lives in Moscow and posts YouTube videos touting the opulence of Russian shopping and dining venues. The videos are very insistent that the featured businesses are TYPICAL (e.g. "Russian TYPICAL Low Budget Supermarket). What he’s really describing, of course, are some of the shopping and dining opportunities in his Moscow neighborhood. The TYPICAL Russian probably has as much chance of entering one of these establishments as I do.

Anyhow, in his latest offering, he breathlessly retraces Tucker’s journey through the TYPICAL shopping mall, highlighting the amenities ("Do your mall parking lots have restrooms?). I am very curious why he’s such a blatant shill for Russian business.

“Tucker Carlson Shopped Here” https://you tu.be/7wi3Bqnun7Y?si=hoWrDhtpt4rlZ9gA (I had to break the link, apparently not allowed to attach videos?)

This is the BBQ Pit. Your post is much more on-topic than half of the posts in a typical Pit thread.

Also, you can absolutely post YouTube videos.

Thank you. I got an error message that said “you cannot post embedded videos.” I was surprised too.

The trick is to paste the link into the box and then hit send before the video loads in the preview window.

Or just disable the preview window altogether, or post from an Android device where it doesn’t show up by default.

Any mobile browser works, I do it from Safari on my iPhone.

But yes, the preview window is the problem. Close that before posting the video and it will let you add it as long as it doesn’t already exist on the forum.

Thanks guys!
