Giuliani happened to Giuliani.
It’s called karma.

Given that Giuliani didn’t have a lot of money, I thought concentrating on the first big state was a wise decision. However, it is now apparent that his message wasn’t getting out to the rest of the nation because the media virtually ignored him. People are influenced by polls, and apparent momentum.
Its a shame, because Giuliani had a specific platform on eliminating the income tax. I don’t know how he would have replaced it, but I have to assume it would be a consumption tax. That is the first time I’ve ever heard a political leader propose the elimination of this regressive tax and something I’ve dreamed about for years.
Huckabee has also bought into the brain dead idea of eliminating the income tax.
Your right. I only heard it once on the same program as both were featured and misremembered.
If you tax labour, you’ll repress the desire to work. i can’t tell how many times people have told me that overtime even at a premium rate isn’t worth it because of the taxes.

How do you feel about cutting taxes on investment income below the rate on earned income?

I can tell exactly how many times someone has said this to me in my 49 years on this earth.
Never.
Huckabee’s Proposal and Replacement
“The plan essentially adopts one proposed by Americans for Fair Taxation, and would impose a 30% national sales tax to replace the revenues lost by eliminating the income tax and the IRS bureaucracy that currently enforces it.”

!!! Income taxes can be extracted under anesthesia! But a 30% sales tax?!
Still, the idea of IRS agents standing by the wayside with “Will Work for Food” signs…
I was a tepid Giuliani supporter at first… well, that is, I should say, of all of the Republican field, I thought he and McCain were the two least objectionable. He’d done well on 9-11, I thought, and had done a lot of good crime-fighting in NYC, reclaimed Times Square, helped the business community, made the subways safe again, etc. Then I did some more reading, and spoke and emailed with real live New Yorkers, and learned a lot more about him. Now I think it’s probably a good thing he’s not going to become President… at least in 2009.
It doesn’t speak well of you when your two grown children want nothing to do with you. Florida voters seem to have figured Rudy out.

That’s because a fat lot of them are New York expats who retired in Florida under his watch. That the word about him has spread should not be a huge surprise to anyone.

Which is, ironically, why he thought he’d win the state. Of course, everyone who’d heard the stories of how hated he was in NYC before 9/11 has been laughing uproariously at that little conceit…

Um, what bureaucracy will be enforcing and collecting the sales tax then?

The merchants, I suppose. And of course no one would ever think about selling stuff under the counter. Yeah, and Prohibition worked great.
The Fair Taxers say the rate is 23% - but they take the price with the tax added as the denominator. Shows how numerate they are.
You know, Huckabee, like Giuliani, seems to have gotten himself a one-way ticket to Palookaville. Where the heck did he go? Did the flavor of the month just melt?
I am so happy to see Giuliani leave. The thing I wish for is Ron Paul beating him in Florida. That would just be the cherry on top of the Strawberry Shortcake. ![]()
I fucking hate that guy. If you’ve ever seen him up close and personal, he’s a real creepy dude. A more corrupt son-of-a-bitch can’t be found outside of Louisiana. It’s funny though how Republicans don’t see corruption until he fucks around on his wife. But this is one case where marital infidelity really highlights a lack of moral fibre.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.

There clearly weren’t enough evangelicals in the other states. The real test was that no one sent him money even after he won in Iowa, and the evangelical leaders aren’t backing him.

He did something even worse than cheating on his wife - announcing his divorce at a press conference without telling her first. Lots of people cheat, but it takes a special brand of weasel to do that.
