What the hell has happened to Eric Camden?

He has become a surly, despondent, defeatist, lying, treacherous, petty, selfish, myopic, paranoid, slothful, pitiful wreck. What the hell happened?

I mean, I sort of saw it coming. Here and there, there would be some action or line that was atypical of the Reverend. And pretty soon, I found myself wondering the same thing Annie did in the last episode: “Who are you?”

I don’t like what’s happening on 7th Heaven. It’s supposed to be a show about a traditional functional family. It was my modern day Little House on the Prairie.

And yes, I understand that there needs to be some conflict and some drama to keep the show interesting, but do any of you agree with me that it has gone too far?

What happened? I missed it Monday and no one knows my secret - that I actually watch it regularly. I thought it was going to be about Lucy and her boyfriend cheating on her.
Ever since Mary trashed the gym they have had “very special episodes” where some family member does something totally out of character. I wish they would go back to some good ol’ Camden family fun.

He talked the Rabbi into going with him to the church to spy on the new Associate Pastor. He lied to Annie, telling her that they were going to the park.

While at the church, the Rabbi thought he was having a heart attack, and so he and Eric went to the hospital. From there, he called the church on a pay phone and pretended to be a woman as he pumped the AP for information. Then, he and the Rabbi concocted an elaborate lie about where they’d been and what they’d been doing, and he got a ride home with the AP.

It was very late when Annie met him and the AP on their porch. Naturally, she didn’t buy anything he was telling her, so Eric suddenly turned on the AP and began trying to pin everything on him. Just before she went into the house, Annie asked him, “Who are you?”

Scenes from next week showed that Eric was telling Lucy that he couldn’t help her. (He’s apparently using his heart attack as an excuse to avoid everything under the sun.) And the voice over said that the family is in crisis because Eric has abandoned his role as family advocate and healer. What the heck is up with that?!

By the way, Kevin didn’t cheat on Lucy. What happened was that he pulled over a speeder (while Simon was riding with him in the police car) and lo and behold, the offender was — his ex-wife! So he told Eric when he got home, and then he told Lucy. Lucy, of course, was pissed that three other people (including Kevin’s partner) knew about the ex-wife before she did. She asked, “Is she pretty?” and huffed away into the house.
