What the hell is going on in "Luann"??

They wouldn’t kill off Zane, would they?? WOULD THEY??!?!!

NOOOOOOOO!!!

(I get waaaaay too wrapped up in serial comic strips)

Shouldn’t this have a SPOILER tag on it? <ducking>

I just read yesterday’s strip and for some reason I was sure that Zane was suddenly going to regain the use of his legs, that it was all going to turn out to be psychosomatic. Haven’t read today’s yet. Maybe Brad will be the EMT who responds and saves Zane’s life?

I know…
Although if you think about it, they could have gotten out easily at the beggining of the fire, but never mind.

Anyway. Do you want my prediction? Bear in mind that I have absolutely no way of knowing what will happen…

Luan’s brother recently became a firefighter, right? He just got EMS certification, right? Well, you do the math…

I do not usually get emotionally attached to a comic strip, but almost cried at today’s strip.

(8/02 for future reference, since it changes daily).

I used to read this strip - but I don’t get the paper any more. Can someone remind me who Zane is?

Or I could just read the sequence you’re talking about on the web site…

:smack:

Duh!! I forgot about Brad!! Thanks, now I can sleep tonight, knowing there’s hope!

(And yes, I DID have the hots for Stuart, thankyewverymuch)

Comic strips are supposed to make me laugh. This is NOT FUNNY!! (But obviously I do get off on the suspense . . .)

Yesterday I thought that Monroe was going to help Zane get out somehow. But yeah, today’s strip really got to me.

Hurry, Brad!!

Come back, Zane!! Zaaane!! Zaaaaaaaaaaaaane!!!

Gee, I can remeber when comix were funny…

http://www.maakies.com/ Ah, yes! That’s the stuff!

“Being drunk is the best feeling in my poor world!”-- Drinky Crow

We’re discussing this in rec.arts.comics.strips, too, for any of you Usenet fans…

Apparently, Bernice did not learn anything from Luann’s pool incident a couple years ago. Luann got into big trouble trying to play hero when Tiffany fell into the pool. (I have the feeling that Tiffany thought that learning to swim as a child would ruin her nails.) Luann dove right in to save her, but, since she wasn’t a lifeguard and didn’t know what she was doing, Tiffany’s struggling started to drag them both down. The real lifeguard, hunky, hunky Stuart, finally showed up and ended up giving the “kiss of life” to Luann

So, here’s Bernice, trying to play hero instead of going into the front door of the store and pulling the fire alarm (hey, they might actually have a customer in there today!) or using the telephone in a neighboring store to call 911. Because 911 will eventually have to be called, after all. And Brad will show up. Looks like Evans is setting up to have Brad give the “kiss of life” to Zane…or to Bernice if she keeps fooling around. Might that affect her relationship with Zane (if he survives)? People have fallen in love with best friends’ older brothers before…

Hmmm…it’s August 2. I bet this story arc ends sometime around…September 11.

Oh, and don’t get me started on Anthony’s mustache in For Better or for Worse

Agreed…he looks like a late 70s gay porn star.

Personally, 10 quatloos says that Brad (Or his weirdo friend) shows up and tries to save Zane’s life, but fails. Setting up at least two future story arcs.

Okay, so I’m a pessimist. But how often have I been wrong? :frowning:

Ranchoth

Brad’s weird friend won’t show up, because he gave up on being an EMT.

I was expecting the old ‘faithful dog help’s his master escape’ bit - not the other way around. And as of 8/3 - Brad just got the “fire at Borderline Books!” call.

I’ll be billing you for my new monitor, Dooku.

You’re the second person I’ve heard say that. They couldn’t get out at first because Bernice’s foot was stuck in one of Zane’s wheels. (7/26)

Now what about Zane? Has he always been in a wheelchair, or did he sustain his injury in a storyline?

As far as I remember, he’s been wheelchair bound since he was introduced. I think he received the Golden Retreiver that Bernice had been training for Canine Companions. Though one strip had him telling Bernice about the accident that crippled him. (A car accident several years ago, as I recall)

Ranchoth:

No, he had his own dog already at the time. He was just attending the “graduation” of the dog Bernice was training.

So is the Todd Beamer Foundation going to go after them for using “Let’s Roll™”?

OK, it looks like Brad is another one who did not learn from his sister!

Where are the actual firefighters? Shouldn’t he have just told one of them that there was a person (or persons) inside? Could he have tackled Bernice to the ground to stop her?

I do not like where this is going, especially considering the possible Sept. 11 finish date.

Will Luann feel extreme remorse for disrespecting her brother in his final days?

Slight highjack and a terrible show of my ignorance, but how do trained dogs help disabled people who are not visually challenged?

And Rilchiam, when Bernice’s foot got caught the fire was just the wastebasket burning, and I do think that you can smell smoke faaar sooner than they did in a smallish office like Zane’s.
