What the hell is wrong with my leg?

Caveat: I’m going to see my doctor tomorrow. I’m not relying on this thread for medical advice. I assume none of you are doctors unless you state otherwise.

So I have this spot on my leg that is sore. It’s my right leg, on the inside (imagine the line of your inseam), just above the knee. At first I think maybe I gave a ligament or tendon a twinge. No big deal. But as the days progress, the pain creeps up the inside of my leg. I don’t think I’ve pulled anything as I haven’t been exercising. And the weird thing is, the inside of my leg is reddening, right along the line where the pain is. The pain is most definitely internal. How is it translating into reddening of the skin? I never touch it.

Anyone ever have anything similar? Or not similar, if you just feel like bitching about your general ill health?

Not a doctor but you can start here with deep venous thrombosis. Toward the bottom of the first page is symptons. The reason I went to this is that you described the pain along a line. Take something like this seriously as it can be fatal if a blood clot breaks loose and if you’re diagnosed with one then your are likely to get another.

So, it’s tomorrow now - any update? Magiver’s theory sounded scary as hell.

Keep us up to date, Dante.

Doesn’t look like it’s thrombosis. The doctor gave me a 10 day course of antibiotics, and I have to go for an ultrasound next week. He suspects it’s either cellulitis (doubtful on these chicken legs) or phlebitis.

He didn’t seem too worried about it, so I’m not going to be either. If I drop dead from a pulmonary embolism, my wife will let you know.

Cellulite is patchy flab; cellulitis is a soft tissue infection. AIUI, the ascending line is from infection/inflammation migrating up the lymph vessels. If only antibiotics cured cellulite . . .

Sounds like good news. And not to scare you but if it gets worse QUICKLYthen run back to the doctor.
