The only way I’ve seen it or made it is with a big rectangle of rice with the SPAM on top (and wrapped with nori and with the glaze). The hard part is making the SPAM-shaped rectangle now that the bottom of the can can’t be cut off. I solved this by buying a musubi form, but you can still cut the bottom of the SPAM can off with shears and crimp the edges with pliers so you don’t cut yourself.
There used to be, and maybe still is, a restaurant across the street that advertised their specialty was Spam. A lot of the menu involved Spam. The restuarant was for sale when I was there a few years ago.
Run it thru a meat grinder or food processer (set on coarse) together with an equal volume of velveeta cheese, and spread the resulting material on bread or english muffin halves, then put under the broiler for 5 minutes.
Slice a couple of thin slices, pan broil it to get the crispy edges and put on a peanut butter sandwich, which you proceed to grill. Goes well with beer.
Having looked up what’s in scrapple, I can only hope that if someone ever feeds it to me, it’s already plated, and I don’t have to learn what it is until AFTER I’ve already experienced its deliciousness.
Kinda like that guy in the un-love potion thread that Skald has going on in IMHO.
Spam is one of my family’s classic on the road foods. I actually perfer the Bacon Spam in taste to the classic Spam. Cut it into pieces and cook it with eggs, cheese, onions, and wild mushrooms if you really know your mushrooms for an outdoor picnic.
