This summer a guy stopped by and asked if he could set his bee hive up in our field. His bees weren’t finding enough stuff to eat in his neighborhood. They did well in our fields and a few weeks ago he pulled them out for the winter. He stopped by yesterday and dropped off a gallon of honey in appreciation.
I know honey can be used to sweeten coffee or tea. But i don’t use sugar in my coffee!
I once brewed some “mead ale”. It’s a little thin, but very thirst quenching. It’s mildly hopped (hence being called an ale) and not sweet like mead. Not as strong either, so you can quaff it. It was pretty good.
This Braised Chicken with Lemon and Honey recipe is to die for. I’ve made it both with a whole fryer like in that picture and with cut pieces. Like several of the comments say, double the sauce ingredients, 'cause you’ll want more than the recipe as written makes.
I use honey to wash my face, instead of soap. I have a jar of raw honey in the shower. I slather it on, rub it into my skin, then rinse it off. If I want an exfolient, I add a little baking soda. I’ve been doing this for a few months and my skin has really been soft and clear.
I’ll third the mead idea. I made a batch once, and it’s pure liquid heaven! Just make sure you age it for at least 6 months, preferably more than a year.
If you can get a hold of a lot of vinegar, there are some great Thai-style recipes for tangy-sweet marinade/grilling sauces. Here’s one; scale up to your volume, and marinate a whole turkey!
I think I’d divide it up and give it to friends and family. Your gallon of honey weighs about 12 lbs. and would retail for around $50.00, so it makes a nice gift, maybe for the holiday cook.
