Thanks for the hugs, everyone.

Actually, it’s the other way around when it comes to visas. Bigger schools already have a system in place for dealing with visas; smaller schools tend to avoid visas because they cost money and are just too much trouble for them to deal with. Boo.
Prof. Rapunzel, I think kimchii counts as a biohazard.
We missed you BooFae!
It would be even better if they teamed up with *Radagast! * Then the Alltel wizard would never even be remembered.
Sounds like a job for Radagast!
Okay, that’s the silly for today. I’m starting to get depressed. I think it’s because I always ended up dating someone in March and that’s not happening this year. Spring, as one of my friends puts it, is a very good time for the mating ritual and I got no one in line. This is a good thing, I tell myself, because I’m so busy with el process de thesis and losing my mind over my TESOL class, but still. I’m going out to be social tonight (I missed movie night this week because of classwork) and starting at the end of the semester I plan to become a regular at the local pub for the people, not the booze. (Very cheap date here.)
I think I need to start exercising and taking B vitamins again. I think this gloominess indicates an imbalance.
Enough of this. Off to do some PR work before heading off to the Land of Dust. (Can someone explain to me why a donor needs to see the manuscript stacks?)
My dad was stationed in Korea from 1970-72. He did not come back with a good impression of the land (most likely because he didn’t see much beyond the DMZ). I think a good 85% of his dislike comes from kimchii. We are German: we like our cabbage as sauerkraut.
Kimchii is a weird food. I crave it sometimes, but that’s just a result of my upbringing, I think. Most people either like it or they don’t. (And yeah, the DMZ is probably the most depressing place in Korea.)
Kimchii may be a biohazard, but it’s a tasty biohazard. Of course, I’m weird; I use Tabasco by the spoonful…
Other than that, I got nuttin’. I mean, Spaz, I’d date you; but I’m on the wrong side of the Atlantic and married to boot, so that probably won’t work
Morning. I’m with everyone else on TGIF or TFIF or whatever we’re calling it.

Management finally realized that parking’s a problem again so now they’re looking for 15 more people (I think this is on top of the current 20.) to park off-site and walk. They’re offering $150/mo as an incentive, plus now they’ve added casual wear - walkers can wear jeans to work. I’m almost tempted, but it’s just so inconvenient. If you want to run out at lunch to do errands, you have to add on the time to walk to the car and back again afterwards. Or if you have a doctor’s appt, add on the walking time. Bleh. I’ll let someone else do it and I’ll just use the newly-freed-up parking spaces.
Kimchi is nothing more than sauerkraut with a bad attitude.
For those who are not fans of the stuff, send it to me.
TGIF!
Today is niiiiice. It was plus 4 when I left and supposed to go up to plus 8! Maybe this weekend I’ll do something crazy… like take Velociraptor to the zoo (we have a pass and haven’t been in a couple months since the last chinook went through on the weekend… reminds me, I’ll have to renew that in a couple months, it’s a worthy investment, once we’ve paid for the pass we can go basically whenever and do picnics and such… pays for itself in three visits unlike some other places in the city which cost a LOT more and don’t have as much to do. Such as the science centre. Hopefully it’ll be more worth the price when they move to the new location by the zoo.).
I got some sleep last night, Velociraptor was cranky but when he finally crashed I did too, so I don’t feel so out of it like I did yesterday.
That shooting sucks. All shootings suck. Why do people have to go do stuff like that?
Ivory why did your daughter switch schools? Tell me to butt out if I’m being nosy. I did much the same (switch schools) because of… issues with the kids. It didn’t take until we moved away from the small town and I basically got a whole new start. I’m glad she’s doing well, it can be rough to change up routine so I understand that.
I loathe all cabbage–I don’t care what nation or culture it comes from. Get thee behind me, stinky brassicae veg! Ugh. (I also hate pickles)
Now I’m really busy today. I am going to deliver a baby gift, then lunch, then meet with my site supervisor for my practicum (ugh) for some homework I had overlooked. And then start the OTHER homework for my other class. And make dinner, finish the laundry, and I’m sure there’s something else–yes, haircut for Mr Shaggy Dog aka #1 son.
Where is my personal assistant? I’d like to go get a massage and pedicure. (as if). Where is my other life?
Ok, so scratch the baby gift visit (too bad since I was going to walk there and get some exercise). Apparently, the 20 year old mother is having (and I quote), " a meltdown" --this from her sister (who is not above being melodramatic when it suits her aka when it puts her sister in a bad light. Oh, I could tell you stories about those two girls!). Anyway, I feel bad for the new mom, because I had any number of “meltdowns” especially with my first, and I wasn’t a college student with a history of past substance abuse and mental health issues.
Sounds to me like she needs to have her sister’s “loving help” removed and some true support given, but that’s just my opinion. (her sister is in HS and they have the day off today). What sister just out and says to someone that her sister is having a meltdown? WTH?
Just rambling here. Now there is no excuse to NOT do my other homework. <sigh. I was really counting on that baby visit as a solid reason to procrastinate. Damn>
so the younger sister is labelling the older sister? Wait. She’ll get hers back whe she’s pregnant, and the older one has some experience under her belt (as it were).
I hereby declare, henceforth, whenever I post (in the MMP), it is assumed I am giving lots and lots of hugs. In fact, we can stockpile them and anyone who needs may take without fear of depleting the reserves. Hugs are a renewable resource
and in the meantime, other assorted appropriate reactions are being dispensed . . . uh . . . appropriately.
OOh, good point.
Oh, younger sister has made a life career out of being the “good one”. It takes a sister to know a sister–and I had 3. She needed to be smacked upside the head long ago by her mom, but mom believes in YS and does indeed treat BS as the “bad one”. Hence, the drug use and the baby (just my opinion–more complicated than that, really).
I’m hungry and will go eat early. THEN I’ll tackle that assignment. Really.
Kimchi = Teh Ick.
I’m okay with cabbage, spicy, briny and vinegary - just not all of the above embodied in a single food. I usually tell Korean restaurants to not bring out any kimchee with the banchan or sub it with extra pickled daikon. Mmmm… daikon.
Time to grab some lunch (N.O.L.)… and then I have the distinct pleasure of leading a 2 hour Q&A session for training staff. If I do not return, please avenge my death.
don’t think I’ve ever had real kimchii. I’ve had spicy asian cabbage, but I have a hunch it was nothing compared to the genuine article.
hari kiri do you or would you prefer pillaging? <sharpens pick axe>
Oh, and I have to mend #2’s jeans. I’m telling you–my work never ends! Especially when I don’t DO any of it.
We have a zoo membership too, just for the hubby and me, and we love it. We love animals, and it’s a great excuse to get outside and do something different. It’s totally worth it. But we, too, gave up our science museum membership after a year. It just wasn’t as much fun.
I’m really excited work-wise. I just learned how to import data to sql server without using the f-ing wizard. I loathe the wizard. I’m so excited! (OK, so I’m a major geek. That’s hardly news.)
Not as much fun and less to do for higher cost for sure. The zoo has tons to do (ours doesn’t only have the animals but also several playground areas, gorgeous gardens in the nice weather, a dinosaur enclosure, and really is a great place for a picnic). For me with a limited budget it’s a year round playground with only one payment, and if I bring a picnic it’s real cheap fun when I’m having a slim month.
testing new sig.
No problem: it was a complicated situation. When my son moved to his new school for 6th grade we were really impressed- it 's a wonderful small school. Our daughter’s class this year was very rocky- she had a male teacher (the same one my son had in 4th grade) whom we loved. However, it seemed like every boy who had any discipline problems was put in her class- 4 girls and 12 very difficult boys. There were racial, physical and religious slurs being tossed around that the teachers and admin were having a lot of trouble containing. My daughter really felt she needed to be “good” to help the class and be the good one. Way too much pressure to be perfect!
Finally, I was fed up with the standardized testing. Everything was being pushed aside for test prep. My daughter is exceptionally bright- reading at 2.5, writing little books at 3, advanced math etc. SHe was getting nothing for herself. We decided to pull her for 5th grade and started the interview process and by then she had had it- she wanted to leave and switch over.
The school she’s at is wonderful- art 2x a week, music 2x week, gym 3x, week, language, great math, science and English programs. But best of all it fosters a community, family atmosphere- everyone does really pull together.
So, that’s a lot more than you were probably looking for!
