What to See and Do in Washington DC - an Informative MMP

Is that the Soap version of “have you looked under the socks?”?

…and since we’re all trying to find lovely outfits for FCM, may I recommend this lovely little demure number?

Hey, at least it covers the naughty bits.

I guess I could explain my reaction a bit, too. My best friend from high school married an idiot, although I didn’t know how idiotic. For example, one day I called her to talk, and he decided that was the moment he needed to practice his trumpet playing - in the same room where she was on the phone. :rolleyes: Then there was the high school renunion - he walked in with her, looked around about 3 seconds, turned around, and went home, leaving her there. At least he had the decency to walk and leave her the car. Anyway, your adventures brought that to mind, and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. But I also know we only get your point of view here, so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

I just had a fun few hours in my studio. I threw 3 pots, including 2 really big ones. I also started decorating two I’d thrown eons ago. Tomorrow I should be able to finish a few of them.

The rain has stopped, but BOY HOWDY is it windy! When I took the doggies out, I was watching the tops of the trees sway - a squirrel could get seasick up there! I expect the cold front is moving thru and we’ll be freezing before too long. It’s supposed to drop to 30 tonight. brrrrr

Time to feed the critters. Then I need to figger out supper for me and my sweetie. Food or pizza fairy??

yeah, well you can’t help it, what with that gay thing going on… :stuck_out_tongue:

**Muppet **- I don’t know if I could compete with that flower of femininity. Plus I shouldn’t wear white and upstage the bride… :eek:

oh. my. gawd.

Back from shoveling, round 2. About 1/2 an inch had fallen since my earlier foray. Lady from up the street cleared most of the block’s sidewalks. Her little snow blower died when she was almost done with mine. And now I see that she’s made it back up to my house. Yee haw! I’m happy for anything I don’t have to shovel completely.

I need to clear out the entrance to my driveway and enough space for my brother’s car by Monday night. He’s flying out of Columbus early Tuesday morning and is planning to spend the night on Monday. The way my street looks now, there won’t be enough on-street parking for him. More importantly, I want to have the entrance to my driveway cleared before they plow the apartments across the street. They have a bad habit of plowing leftovers right into my driveway, creating horrible mountains for me to shovel by hand. I’m keeping an eye out for them, in case they’re so rude that they’d block me in even if my driveway is cleared out. They’ve been pretty careless in the past.

Off to do…something.

I REALLY need to put beverages down when I click image links on the SDMB.

I am Teh Win.

FCM, I suppose it would be gauche to wear white… but I think a bright flamingo pink would be stunning.

…industrial-strength tazer levels of stunning, in fact.

I’m glad my wardrobe dilemma is such a source of amusement. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m conducting a chicken experiment for lunch. I tried it yesterday for dinner and I wasn’t impressed, so I’ve tweaked it a bit. (It’s a Pioneer Woman’s recipe - of course.)

Will report back.

Moooom where have you looked for your dress? For my wedding my Mom and MIL got their dresses at JcPenny and Herbergers. Both were plus size as well.

I shy away from ordering dresses online, but I’m picky and it takes me forever to find a dress I like. Though I did take my measurments and ordered a really cute one off eBay for about $20, which I have yet to wear out.

MY EYES! MY EYES! Gah. That is so Godawful, words fail me.
At first I didn’t see the ugliness re the mall dresses–afterall, the bodices are nice for young somethings, THEN I saw the hemlines. :eek: Took me right back to early 80’s… Skeery.
The garden show was meh. I hate to say it, but it was more of a see this water feature and lots of paving stones with gazebos than actual GARDEN stuff. (not that the other stuff isn’t nice. I really liked some of the water features–I just expected more in the way of flowers and display and less hawking of merchandise). I liked it better at Navy Pier–the Rosemont Horizon is one weird venue. I did see some VERY large koi, and thought of YOU, Haze. <glares sternly at the northside of Chicago. I know you feel my eye on you!>

The zoo was fun, we had a blast though we got there late cuz Dad called. Then Step-mom started giving me tips for the potential interview (which helps since she works for the government already), then Dad called again because he’s plotting something for the long weekend over Easter.

Now I’m off to catch the bus to meet up with my friends for Vietnamese, bubble tea and then driving. Yay!

hugs and yays all around and then zips off

Bacon cheeseburgers (burgers grilled by moi), french fries and beerverages… the perfect Sattiday supper… MMMMMMMMM… full tummy… happy bear! :smiley:

It’s officially DST at da cave cause I went ahead and set all the clocks up one hour. Between the kitchen gadgets, alarm clocks, weird mantle clock that actually sets on top of the entertainment center and vehicle clocks I was afraid I’d forget. Thank Og the clocks on the DVD/VCR players and the puter will update automagically.

Speaking of MOB dresses, you decide, Mother of The Bride dress or ugly kitchen wallpaper. The tube top and thong idea is lookin’ better and better. :smiley:

I just made some sour cream chocolate chip muffins–homemade. OMG-damn, I’m good at baking!

It’s nice to see the sun again, but that wind is bitter. I am now eating muffins for dinner (I had garlic pasta and leftover roast chicken for lunch) and avoiding homework.

I may search the Net for a dress for FCM. That’s vital, ya know–not like grad school stuff. She’ll have to look at those pics for YEARS; me, the homework? I’ll never look at it again.

Hee! I am still giggling at the thought of Rigs going after Haze with that wet trout (although now I’ve got a koi pictured!).

We made it to Trader Joe’s and back okay, and are very thankful that we did get the ride. I got a lot of stuff to try out, but they didn’t have the ginger-lemon scones or the fruited Fage (Greek-style) yogurts. But all is good! I got two pounds of TJ’s coffee beans; it’s only $5.99/lb!! And on the recommendation of MamaTigs (thanks!), I got the chicken gorgonzola, which I had already been thinking of getting because it sounded so good. laughs I’ll let you know what I think of it! Any leftovers of these dishes, if delicious, will become my lunch at work the next day, so it all evens out in the end. :slight_smile:

All the ads at the bottom of the page are for plus-size lingerie!!! Must be that link that Swampy posted. :wink:

Enjoy your Saturday evening folks. And CutiePie, while you might not be a peach all the time, we still love ya. :slight_smile:

McUne, I haven’t looked in any real stores yet - I just did some on-line browsing. It would be easier if the models were shaped more like me than the stick women they use. Anyway, Penney’s is on the list - I often have good luck there.

swampy, it doesn’t say wallpaper as much as, maybe, gramma’s couch??

We had burgers for supper, and now we’re in the evening chill mode. We put clean sheets on the bed, which was an adventure because Taz insisted on lying on the bed as we made it. He is such a noodlehead! It’s still windy like crazy and before I go to bed, I’ll change some clocks, I guess.

And the first half of my weekend spirals down the drain… <sigh>

As it turns out, I decided to make another batch today. The first one was…interesting but not really edible after a couple little pieces. I had oversalted and overseasoned it so I’m going to error on the side of underseasoning this time around. If the amounts seem vague, it’s because I’m kinda eyeballing the whole thing and I’m new to the recipe myself. I drove to the 'burbs to get better produce but it was worth it.

~20 Serranos (Looks for shiny, smooth skin with a firm texture. They should snap when bent);
a jalapeno (optional & not traditional but I wanted to try it);
a few stalks of celery;
a carrot (or a couple ‘baby’ carrots);
about half an onion;
some olives;
some cauliflower florets (I used frozen);
fresh flat parsley;
fresh oregano;
salt;
black pepper;
some dried basil;
one or two cloves of garlic.

Washing and preparing veggies;
Quarter to half inch long serranos;
Thiiin sliced jalapenos. I want these to basically dissolve or otherwise be texturally insignificant;
Cut veggies. Chop onion, red pepper and carrots to make the mixture ‘look right’. It should be mostly green with little flashes of color;
Not too much salt. I used a tablespoon here and the olives will be salty, too;
Herbs. I didn’t use these the first batch and thought they’d freshen the mixture up. Don’t cut the leaves from the stems until tomorrow;
Everyone into the pool! Add enough cold water to cover the whole mess. The herbs will be easier to manage if you wait until just before bottling to chop them. I left the olives out so they can continue to desalt.

After a soak in the salt water overnight, drain the veggies and sanitize some jars/bottles in boiling water. Mix about equal parts oil (your choice…I’m going with a custom olive/canola blend) and white vinegar. Bottle and refridgerate for …about 2 weeks. I turned ther jars every couple days. I sure hope this batch turns out.

I got some fresh tuna for tonight but I think I’m heading to a friend’s place instead. Looks like I’ll be grabbing something on the way.

Hee! It’s innerestin’ to me to see that there are like bazillions of sites dedicated to the cause of bridal gowns, bridesmaids dresses (one must have that perfect buttbow dress after all!), mother of the bride dresses, mother of the groom dresses, flower girl dresses, random women who wander in off the street dresses etc. but practically nuttin’ devoted to appropriate dress for the groom, usher/groomsmen, father of the bride, father of the groom, whatever little boys get to be in weddings, random men who wander in off the street etc. Heck, guys could show up in a wifebeater and boxer shorts and it appears no one would care. :smiley:

I need ice cream.

no, swampster, it’s just how many variations on a tux are there? Then again, I’ve seen guys go to proms…
