What To Wear To The Premiere Of A Short Film?

Kids, I need y’all’s help PLEASE!

Autumn of last year, a group of young film students chose the hospital where I work to film a heart transplant segment for the short film, “He Got Soul” http://www.hegotsoul.com/

Well, because I served as a “quasi” medical advisor and have a short walk-on, the film’s director, Kip Casto, thought enough of me to invite me to its first screening here in Atlanta at a place called 255 Tapas Lounge.

Kip just sent us an e-mail and in part, this is what it says:

“Just to let everyone know, this is a classy event. So come stylish! show us what you got…”

Y’all, I’m 59 and the last time I wore anything “stylish” was at my senior prom back in '68 (last century).

I love these kids and the message this film sends is a great one - simple but great - I wanna dress up for them if I can, but I’m just used to scrubs or jeans, and I sure could use some help!

Thanks for your help

Bill

Shorts?

Khakis and a blue blazer

A short skirt.

No high heels.

[Frank Burns] You GUYS [/Frank Burns]

I do like the khakis and blazer idea though!

Blazer *draped * across the shoulders, though, right?

Okay, here’s what I came up with:

A velvet blazer (wheat): Here: http://www.undergear.com/Product/SUITS+BLAZERS/Logan+Velvet+Blazer/D-1025/P-IA54LBAzz/I-IA54_L_WE/navtheme/dept

A white Henley with gold brocade swirl on the front

Jeans antique ring-spun denim in light antique indigo: Here: http://www.landsend.com/pp/ComfortWaist5pocketDenimJeans~187708_-1.html?bcc=y&action=order_more&sku_0=::LAI&CM_MERCH=IDX_00001__0000000026&origin=index

The aforementioned suede boots (depending on if I get the stain out or not)

Okay?

Or if you have other suggestions and a link, please let me have them. I have less than 2 weeks before this event.

Thanks

Q

Dude, you’re a doctor…just wear scrubs!

I can’t think of anything classier to see in an audience for a film about a hospital! Talk about lending credence to the subject…

DMark: Please see http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=10802258#post10802258.

Thanks for thinking that, but I’m just an RT.

Still…I think wearing scrubs to the event would not only be cool, but put the audience in the mood and make it all seem “real”.

IANAD Yeah, but my date is gonna be dressed to kill and I don’t think she’d appreciate it,** DMark **:D.

Also the attire is stylish/classy, and there’s nothing about scrubs (i.e. my work clothes - with stains and vital statistics written on the legs in ball point pen) that can be described as anything but comfortable.

Besides, you wouldn’t want me to stand out like that proverbial “turd in the punchbowl” wouldya, bro?

As long as everyone else isn’t going to be wearing a tux, I think your planned outfit will be fine. I will suggest that you go with a darker wash for the jeans, though. The dark indigo looks a good bit dressier and would (to me, anyway) be a lot better for the event.
