I saw a stretch Porsche 944 while in Vancouver. It was the ugliest looking thing ever. To make matters worse, it was beige.
I was on the bus to go home yesterday and spotted a State Trooper Camero. Didn’t even know Viriginia had those!
An AMC Gremlin in like new condition! Saw it yesterday, and was totally surprised! Haven’t seen one in ages.
Jeff Olsen: The California Highway Patrol used some Cameros a while ago. They decided they were not practical. They also used five-litre Mustangs. From what I’ve heard, the Mustangs were popular with the officers who drove them, and they lasted longer than the Cameros; but in the end, they too proved impractical. (Personally, I didn’t like them at all. They’re not as easy to pick out as the Crown Vic.)
BMW M1.
Now that, I would have liked to see.
Well, whomever owns the car lives around here because I’ve seen it a few times. Didn’t realize they were all that rare until I mentioned seeing it to a friend of mine the other day.
IIRC, I think only about 400 or so were built, and thats from around 1979-80. Who knows how many are still around, and how many are actually even being driven!
When I worked on the B-1 project at Edwards AFB, one of the test pilots had a tan 924. Doug Benefield was killed in the crash of 159 (the first one). It was weird to be walking to the hangar afterward and see his car sitting there.
Last week on the way to work I saw a small bright red car on the 405. I don’t know what it was. It wasn’t a Morris Mini Minor. It looked more like an Italian job. (I think I saw one in From Russia with Love, but I’ll have to look again.) It was about the size of a classic Mini, but had “bug”-y healights and sort of a rounded bonnet with a kind-of vertical grille. Come to think of it, I may have seen it in Roman Holiday.
I’m sure if someone recognizes it from my vague description and posts a link, I’ll smack myself in the head and say “Of course!”
Okay, the caffeine is starting to take effect.
The bright red car I saw mightn’t have had a vertical grille. I might be remembering the bulbous bonnet. Anyway, I saw a photo of a 1958 Morris Minor 1000 coupé, and I think that’s what I saw.
I Just saw a bunch old british and italian cars thanks to having stopped up at an old MG/Jaguar/Alfa dealership that now works in restorations.
I saw:
2 Mini’s
A few Jag E-Types
A 1958 Alfa
A couple of MGB’s
A few MGB GT’s
Austin Healey 3000
Few Fiat’s
Etc…
I drive a 1967 Chrysler as a daily driver, so while I see it everyday, not everyone else does
I see someone’s Daihatsu Charade parked at my community college every so often.
There were too many unusual cars to list at the local Concours d’Elegance two weeks ago. Among the highlights were a Brutsch Mopetta, a replica of a Chevrolet Corvette Nomad, and a custom hot rod that appeared to contain a V-24 pulled from a small aircraft.
I later heard there was also a man walking around filming up women’s skirts with a video camera mounted inside his shoelace. Clever fellow.
A white, 1976 Rolls-Royce sedan. That’s not half as interesting where I saw it, though: Wal-Mart!
In driving through Burbank the other evening, I spotted a Citroen SM, don’t ask me the year.
Always had a soft spot in my heart for those French sports cars - and the SM is one of the most unique and beautiful cars around.
It looks like a hamster! (I’m sorry, but it does.)
No accounting for taste, Tucker (and I mean MY taste, amigo!)
I’m the one who owned an AMC Pacer and LIKED it, remeber?
And you remember what I said?
Yesterday, on Chapman Ave. a bit east of the Orange Circle, I passed a bright-red Izetta coming in the opposite direction. I’ve wanted one of those since I saw several of them in Germany on my European Excursion 1982.
Going to LAX a couple weeks ago, spotted a Lotus Esprit. Then, in New Zealand, saw a Corvette which was left-hand drive (fairly rare in NZ) and appeared to be a convertable Z06.
Yesterday I saw a Suzuki Samurai with no scratches on the roof !
