I always saw Gomez as representing the old money aristocracy, more than a little deranged from generations of inbreeding and an insular social life. A sort of House of Usher kind of meme.
I understand Wednesday developed a bit of front story years later.
Munsters arguably had a better theme song. As catchy as the Addams Family theme is, it’s very 1960s-dorky. Even Will Smith couldn’t do much with it.
But that bassy, jazzy Munsters theme… up there with Hawaii Five-Oh, IMVHO. Do I keep hearing a sample of it in some current pop composition?
My god what a porker!
(Sorry, just anticipating all the millennial responses…)
Yes, you do - or at least, I do, and I assume you’re hearing the same song.
I’ve only heard it maybe 3 times, though, so I haven’t ID’d it yet.
Just googled it - it’s “Uma Thurman” by Fall Out Boy.
Lisa Loring- if the images search is anything to go by, she’s ok but nothing spectacular.
Marilyn Monroe, the Sex Goddess herself, would be considered a porker today.
Are you saying that this is intended to look like a Latin lover???
It’s amazing how much she resembles Vivien Leigh in that particular photo.
But Sinatra’s version isn’t bad.*
No, that’s not the real Frank, just an incredible* simulation.
**in·cred·i·ble (adj) Impossible to believe.
But their viewpoint was different. It’s been said that the Munsters believed that they were like everyone else, while the Addams Family thought that everyone else was like them.
Cara Mia!!!***
I think you missed the snark factor, there. (Glances up at portrait of Marilyn on the office wall.)
That women with some shape and curves besides melon tits are considered “too fat” is one of the best pieces of evidence we have that societal view of women is sick.
I can’t quite imagine who thinks a tangle of coathangers with a pair of soccer balls in front and fat lips is sexy. So get off my lawn.
He was creepy and kooky…although they were all a little spooky.
I was referencing the Wikipedia page:
“John Astin had long sessions with Addams and series producer David Levy, who gave him free rein in developing the character. Enlarging on Addam’s description of Gomez as a Latin lover type, Astin suggested the eye-rolling, pencil moustache, and ardent devotion to Morticia.”
Presumably, he was talking about the TV character not the comic character.
True enough. But the character of Morticia was sexier than the character of Lily. It’s like how Lily Aldrin is sexier than Willow Rosenberg.
I thought Gomez was the one human in the family? Just like Marilyn was the one human in the Munsters.
Gomez was a Latin Lover and had swept Lilly off her feet. But I always thought he was the one human in that family. I thought the others were different. Vampires, hunchbacks and other creatures.
Hunchbacks aren’t human?
It depends on the story. Haven’t hunchbacks and gargoyles been used in horror? They are presented as other worldly creatures. Scary and misunderstood.
The only one I’m vaguely familiar with is the Hunchback of Notre Dame. I haven’t watched that movie since my teen years.
Hunchbacks are not otherworldly creatures.
They’re just a little bent.
