What was happening about the time you were born?

What events were going on in the world about the time you were born? Anything memorable that we can relate to?

If you were born in late July to mid-August of 1969, I can think of at least three biggies that were happening.

The week I was born was near the mid-point of World War II. The Warsaw ghetto uprising had begun a couple of months before. Roy Rogers and Trigger were on the cover of Life magazine. I was born sometime between Opus One and String of Pearls. On the day I was born, For Whom the Bell Tolls was released in theaters and the French were celebrating the 154th anniversary of Bastille Day.

I was born one day before the start of the Watts riots.

“I’m Henery the Eighth I Am” (by Herman’s Hermits) was the number one song in the U.S., I missed “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” by one week.

I was born three weeks before JFK was assassinated

I was born during the height of the Nixon scandal.

The day I was born was the day Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat.

Mount St. Helens blew up right around my birthday.

The Falklands War occures sometime shortly after I was born.

Counting back, I think I was born right after Reagan’s election. (1984, right?) Other than that, according to Google, absolutely nothing interesting seems to have happened in December of 1984.

Well, my mom went into labor and my dad took her to the hospital and then the doctor put the anasthetic mask on her face and grabbed the forceps–

Oh, you meant historical things. Lyndon Johnson had just been elected a few days earlier. And soon I would get to grow up watching the Vietnam War on TV.

Now I’m an old fogie and I’m just hunting for the proper rocking chair.

lawoot, I think of that month as a major turning point in my life and I think that is true for a lot of people. I think I went from kid to adult overnight.

The Chevrolet Corvette, with its Blue Flame six, was hot new stuff.

Playboy Magazine began publishing.

Ike had just started his first term.

I was born a week or so before the Cuban Missile Crisis.

The day I was born, Berke Breathed, creator of the comic strips Bloom County and Outland was celebrating his first birthday.

On the day I was born, some famous guy from the Netherlands named Seth Kamphuijs was also born.

Never heard of him and I can’t figure out why he’s famous because all of the websites about him are in Dutch.

He’s cute, though.

I was born on a day that will live in infamy - the day East Timor was invaded was by Indonesia with the blessing of the United States.

KC & the Sunshine Band were at number 1 with That’s the Way I Like it (according to the Cash Box archives).

And it was the 34th anniversery of Pearl Harbour.

Pablo Picasso died the day I was born.

Dashiell Hammett died the day I was born.

Albert Einstein died, Disneyland opened and James Dean took his last ride.
